Hi ladies and gents,

I was diagnosed with PCOS and have since been struggling with getting pregnant, keeping a pregnancy, etc. I have been keeping things in check holistically. Unfortunately I still have cycles when I don't O.

I am not the typical PCOS woman. I am 5'6 and 105 pounds. I have NEVER had a drop of acne and can probably count every pimple I have had in my life on one hand. I do not grow a lot of hair on my face. I grow a few strands on my chin I tweeze maybe once a month and a light mustache lol. I do not have to be on metformin because I "don't have that type of PCOS, (gyno)."

Anyway, I am writing this to encourage all of you to get your thyroid checked. The correlation is unreal, and the symptoms are frighteningly similar. I say frighteningly because of all of the possible misdiagnosis and women spending thousands of dollars trying to conceive because they have been treating the wrong issue. My thyroid has been on the low side of "normal" at one point, low the next, then kind of "normal." Well, normal for them does NOT work for me. My acupuncturist encouraged me to begin an herbal thyroid supplement...

By the time I took my second pill I felt like someone took the blinders off. I feel happy and friendly. Not that I was mean at all, but you don't realize what you are missing until you experience what you are missing.

Even if your thyroid is a little off, it can still affect you in a major way. Especially fertility. Some doctors do not seem to get that. I don't know why, and I don't care. I just want to spread the news to you ladies that may not be aware. The good news is, when treated, fertility usually resumes rather quickly.

Many women that have PCOS also have hypothyroidism. Guess what hypothyroidism can cause? Hair loss, weight gain, POLYCYSTIC OVARIES, annovulation, blood sugar issues, and infertility to name a few.

I believe I have been completely misdiagnosed. That is fine. 32 yo with not children, not as bad as it could be. I am just happy I found out now.

I have been on the thyroid suppliment about a week and everyday I take it I feel a difference in me right away. Also, I got PMS this month!! I was a moody little woman the night before last. My nipples were sore and now my breasts are tender. Also, my period seems to have started. I am truly looking forward to this cycle!!

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask whatever you want and I will try hard to answer your questions.

I am not doctor, but I am one determined woman living with infertility. And I think everyone knows nothing tops a woman with a goal!

P.S. Even if you are overweight it can still be hypothyroidism. I want to emphasize that.

Great post - theres not a lot on the internet about the relationship between pcos and hypothyroidism.

I have autoimmune thyroiditis (hasimotos) and pcos. The underactive thyroid has led to a severe depletion in my egg reserve and has contributed to where i am now. The thyroid plays a key role in fertility and its kept quiet by doctors/media!! Whats all that about?? I had NO IDEA until it was a possibility until was diagnosed.

I now have a diminished reserve / premature ovarian ageing all due to my thyroid being out of whack for a long period of time (i have ALWAYS felt shattered even after 8 hrs sleep)

xx

I asked for my thyroid to be tested as I had other symptoms that are apparently linked to thyroid problems but they said everything was normal.

Two years ago a scan showed I had polycystic ovaries but hormone tests came cack normal so no PCOS. A year later no cysts.

Unexplained infertility is so frustrating.

:hugs: Hope - I cant imagine being told they just dont know whats causing my infertility, it gets frustrating (putting it mildly) being tested for everything under the sun and getting no answers :(

Have u been tested for clotting factors? xx

I have absolutely thought this too but all test are coming up on the low side of normal so no one will take me seriusly about the thyroid. What herbal supplement are you taking?

levels should be between 1-2 for optimum results, fertility wise. My levels were 5.9 (anything above 6 is deemed hypothyroid) I was put on levothyroxine 75mg and that has gotten my levels down to 1.5 :D

If there is anything herbal that will help id be very interested! Theres not much info about this anywhere  it should be standard practice for RE's to check levels and keep it within the optimum parameters for EVERYONE. xx

I am VERY sorry to hear that. I am not sure what it is about either. Either they don't know or don't want to spend the time on it so they shove clomid or BC at us. Is there any natural remedies you can take for your eggs? Have you seen an acupuncturist/herbalist? If not, I highly suggest you do ASAP.

Did you ever get your exact test results? You may be borderline and they considered it as normal but it could be really affecting you. Polycystic ovaries are a huge sign for hypothyroidism. It breaks my heart that so many women are going through this. I had a doctor say the same thing to me. Everything is "normal" is not good enough. Normal for one person is not normal for you. I take the mega food brand called thyroid strength. One Dr. flat out acted like I was crazy. Even though my levels had been low before with another doctor.

One more thing. Please see an herbalist/acupuncturist. They know the herbs people have been taking for thousands of years to boost fertility. Western medicine is still fairly new. Doctors do not know it all and push herbs to the side which is ridiculous because they model their toxic drugs off of what is natural growing on our planet. I am pretty confident the creator knew what it was doing when it placed these herbs here for us to utilize. Please go and try.

You sound EXACTLY like me!! I take Mega Food Thyroid Strength. My acupuncturist was disgusted when I told her what my Dr. said. Please look into it and see what you think. It is 100% natural and vegan. Made from herbs that people have used for thousands of years.

I use Mega Food Thyroid Strength. It is herbal

Sorry for the overload of responses but I felt it was important to respond to everyone individual because this is such a serious issue.

Thanks :D

Im seeing an acupuncturist regularly, I am now on a ton of supplements like co-q10 every day, vitamin d, omega 3, vitabiotics pregnacare conception, baby aspirin. Think thats it but not sure lol it all equates to 14 tablets a day :O oh yeah i take 75mg levothyroxine every day too.

In my case, i was lucky it was one of the first things they checked and got to the right level. It just so happened that we had no idea of what effect it had already had on my fertility. Its only been since the ivf treatments and reserve tests (which are all getting progessively worse) that we have found out. It all gets a bit depressing when you think about it really.

I think getting help for possible fertility problems asap is best no matter what age you are. I am incredibly lucky to already have a son, i sometimes wonder what would have happened if we would have left it any longer to see our doc. (self referred after 4.5yrs ttc) Also im glad we decided to get seen again when he was 4 months old.

Infertility is crap and it happens to good people who deserve kids. :(

Sorry for the rant, i just cant stop when i get started lol xx

Never heard of that - where do u get it from hun? xx

I haven't tested for clotting. My GP said I'm not eligible for any more tests on the NHS because I'm over 40.

I get that I won't be able to have funded IVF but I don't see why they can't do more in depth tests to explain why I can't conceive when everything else seems normal. I've all but given up & we're looking into adoption.

Hope - there is an implantation clinic in coventry run by professor Quenby - may be worth looking into? It cost us 150 for an endometrial biopsy to check for nk cells, they also check for clotting factors too i believe, although you would have to ask her - i would say if your paying for it then i dont see why u shouldnt get what u ask for  That sucks that ur not eligible hun :( I think they should take more into consideration than just age alone :hugs: xx
