Hi there,
I hope someone maybe able to help me.
I have been ttc number 2 for 9 months, I have only ovulated twice and one of those times It was due to prescribed clomid.
I know that I have pcos and was diagnosed in 2007, but concieved my daughter naturally in 2009.
I temped and realised I was NOT oving so I went to my doc and he gave me clomid to try at home without being monitored.
It worked once, it worked- then I took it a second time (double the amount) and it didnt work.
I have now moved areas and Im not sure what this doctor will allow me to have (more clomid at home or perhaps see a FS)
Just wondering, If i didnt want to go through the NHS route where would I go to get treatment and how much am I looking at for some montitored clomid cycles?
Really hope some of you have some advice.
Thank you very much in advance xxxx

Hi I do Napro, which is a lot cheaper the IVF etc. Its not just charting as some people think. The docs monitor your cycles and prescribe drugs to help fix what problems they can see. Usually they will find something the NHS thinks is fine.

Hi there, i'm afraid i cant really help too much on the subject of clomid etc but i have been trying for 2 years to get pregnant and have miscarried twice so have seen a private doctor at the BuPa hospital in Reading. He was very good and helpful. I see you live in London so location wise it may suit. His name is Dr Swanton. If you google him you should be able to find some info. I was fortunate that i had it paid for through work so cant help with advice re costs etc. I did get an appointment very quickly, out of hours too and was traeted very well.

Just a thought but it might be worth trying clomid again....maybe at the dose that did work for you (i'm guessing 50mg). Unless of course there was some particular reason your dose was doubled.

I had some diagnostic work done privately (scans, consultation and bloods) but my work paid for it so i'm not sure of costs, sorry. If you call one of the clinics they should be able to give you a quote.

Good luck! x

Some private hospitals give Letrozole (AKA Femara) instead of Clomid!! It can also work for women who Clomid hasn't worked for. There was a thread a while ago and apparently depending whether you are more yin or yang will depend which works for you. Don't think its scientifically proven- but very interesting. xx
