My partner and i have been trying almost 2 years for a child of our own with no luck i had went to the recurrent mc clinic at the hospital and done blood work on me and paul his came back fine and mine came back with that.
Now its been a year since the last mc with no luck yet so i went back to my gp to find out how to go about testing my partners sperm etc and try and get the fertility part rolling i told her i wasnt ready for ivf but maybe clomid etc after my last appointment with my gyne they said they werent gonna discharge me and i found out they have cause i tried to make an appointment so now im having to back to gp turns out i may not be able to get the sperm testing or fertility treatment done cause i do have a child does anyone else or should i say is anyone else in this position? that can offer me help or advice im so low i dont even feel like having sex now cause of this

Hi

I'm sorry you're feeling so low. I'm no expert with this aspect (neither hubby or I have any previous children) and I'm not sure where you would stand with funding for IVF as you already have a child from a previous relationship, but I'm sure that that doesn't affect your ability to get hubby's sperm checked.

Even if he had a child, sperm production and quality can easily change so I don't think that affects your right to get his sperm checked. Definitely pursue it with your Dr. Most clinics like that to be done via your GP before you are even referred to them so it's not something your clinic has to sanction.

Good luck
Deb x

Hi. I am so sorry you are going through this. We have been ttcing for just over 4 years and I already have a dd from my first marriage. Our doctor referred us to the fertility clinic and we both had all the tests carried out on the nhs. However, we were told that if we needed ivf we would have to fund this ourselves. I would still as the doc to refer you for testing though and if nothing else you will know where you stand. Good luck. Dxxx

thank you very much for your replys im looking into possibly going private is it possible to pay insurance through bupa to get fertility testing done and treatment x

Private Medical Insurance companies such as BUPA will not cover you for fertility testing and treatment. Occasionally they may cover the cost for some treatments/ tests as an existing member but to take the policy out having already been diagnosed with PCOS they would use that as an exclusion.

If you are thinking of going private your best bet is to to find which local clinic you would like to use and getting a list of costs. I think for initial testing the costs are not too extreme they seem to get worse when having specific procedures x
