Is it safe for babies to breathe in incense sticks? I want to get some bergamot incense sticks as bergamot apparently lifts moods and helps ease anxiety, stress and depression. I'm going through a phase of depression (postpartum depression I think) and I'm trying to beat it without anti-depressants. Is it okay to burn bergamot incense sticks in one room with a baby? I don't know where else or who to ask about it...

Stalking. I love oils for use in my diffuser but don't use them much because I'm afraid it will bother him.

Oils in a diffuser will be less "harmful" (I use that word only because I can't think of another) than incense.

I used to burn incense a LOT back in 2003, and when I moved house, I took down all the stuff off the walls in my bedroom only to realize to my horror that the smoke had made my walls FILTHY (they looked almost black, compared to the wall "behind" the stuff I'd had hanging) -- I've never burned it since.

Bergamot essential oil in a diffuser would be a much gentler method :)

I'm scared of using too much oil and it causing bad symptoms on me or LO lol. That's why I chose incense sticks because you can't overdose on them (unless you burn loads a day of course!)

Depending on what kind of oil diffuser you have it would be very difficult to "overdose" on them... lol

If its a candle style diffuser, then you typically fill the bowl with water and only need to add 1 or 2 drops for it to diffuse the scent. Essential oils diffused also are a lot less likely to "overdose" than if applied topically to the skin.

Here's a great link about essential oils and babies :)

I wouldn't use incense because it's smoke, whereas EOs in a burner are not. I think EOs can be harmful on a babies skin or ingested but from aromatherapy I doubt it, but I'm no expert.

Incense though, way too smokey! Gives me a headache so I wouldn't expose a baby to that...

I'm just overly panicking lol! Thank you :) x

I don't even know how to use an oil diffuser, are they pretty simple? I sound so dumb right now lol!

Haha not difficult at all! If its the tealight style then you just fill the top with water and add 1 or 2 drops of oil, light the tealight & stick it underneath.

If its an electric style, then you fill the reservoir with water, add a few drops & turn on. :)

I made this exact same thread a few months ago and everyone responded overwhelmingly with NO, do not burn incense around LO. who knows how much harm it actually does but since then I've been put off.

Try Earl Grey tea its got a Bergamot scent to it. Seems to have a calming effect on my kids anyways. I don't drink tea but i love the smell making it.

agree not to use intense for reasons stated and i used to burn insense as a teenager and I sometimes had very vivid dreams after it.

An hours walk daily in the fresh air is supposed to help as well.

Keep your b vitamins up to help stave off depression. I love Marmite personally and there are lots in there.
