Hi everyone

i am newly pregnant with incompetent cervix i have already had a baby prematurley who is a healthy 4yr old now then i had another baby early this year who passed away at 22 weeks due to ic. I am 5 weeks pregnant now and very scared as to what the future holds for me. i cant cope with losing another baby and i am very anxious. is there any one who could share thier success stories with the cervical cerclage and ic. as in this pregnancy i will be having a cervical cerlage. i know there is already an incompetent cervix thread allready but there is 501 pages to read and with a 4yr old i dont have enough time to read throught every page, even though i have read tried to and ended up reading a few bits of it :-)

i just want a bit of reassurance that all is going to be ok as i feel like im in for a long hard worrysome pregnancy.

Thankyou

Hello twinkle,

FirStly, i am so terribly sorry to hear that you lost your precious baby at 22 weeks. That must have been a dreadful time for you. No wonder you are so worried.

I am the lady who started the Incompetent Cervix thread 2 years ago. Its sooo long now and so much inFomtomread on ther, so totally understand. But i can give you hope! I went into pre term labour with my daughter at 23 weeks. They put in an emergency cerclage/stitch at 24 weeks and gave me medication to stop contractions and steroids to mature her lungs. My cervix had thinned to practically nothing (0.5 cm front, ocm back and funnelling) and i was nearly 2 hours at a 45 degree angle ( to push my waters back) on the operating theatre which is normally a 30 minute op. In order to make the stitch they actually had to tuck my daughters foot back in! Luckily my waters were all intact. My daughter stayed in till 37 weeks!!!!

I am curently pregnant with my second child, had a planned stitch at 12 weeks and am now 26 weeks. I have had a few hairy moment but so far so good! This time, because it was an elective stitch rather than emergency, they were able to stitch the top and bottom of the cervix giving a far more secure chance. This baby is not getting out until that stitch comes out!!! I also suffer from an irritable uterus which means my body can easily go jnto strong contractions os i do have to take it easy ( not easy with a 2 year old in tow! ) but this pregnancy feels so differeent this time, last time it felt like the baby was literally falling out all the time.

There is hope darling, book yourself in for an electivencerclage as soon as they will do it. Because of your previous history you will of course be seen as High Riskmwhich will ensure you are given extra special care.

Wishing you all the very best of luck and keep us posted, any questions dont hesitate to ask anytime. You will see a lady callled lizziedripping on the IC thread, she is an amazing lady and has much experience and i know she will guide you safely through this. Lizzie is our IC Guardian Angel, so get in touch with her too.

Fingers crossed for you xxx
