Hi,

Me again :)

Our fave girls name is Indie, but i love names that can be shortened for a nn and as much as i love Indie i keep thinking i can't shorten it but i'm not sure i can part with Indie :). I don't like India.

I love Alexis too nn Lexi...but do you think Lexi is too common? and i don't mean in the popular way.

Boys name choice is Elijah nn Eli.

Thanks x

Do you like the name India? Then you could have Indie as the nn. I also prefer names that can have a nn as mine can't so know where you're coming from. I like Lexi too as don't think it's too common, though I prefer the long form Alexa.

I can't really think of a nn for Indie because it's kinda nicknamey already! It's very cute though!

I've never seen Lexi as 'common'. What makes you think it is, out of interest?

Elijah is OH's favourite boys name, nice choice :flower:

xx

Thanks hun.

I don't like India, annoyingly because that would have been perfect.

I quite like Alexa too.

x

Thanks LunaRose - Indie is kinda nicknamey already isn't it. Umm...i think its because the Lexi's I know of are from "chavvy" type families.

I just did a little search for other names that could have the nn "Indie"

I found: Indiana, Indira, & Indigo (hey, color names are "in" at the moment!)

"The girl's name Indira: in-dira\ is pronounced in-DEER-ah. It is of Hindi and Sanskrit origin, and the meaning of Indira is "splendid". Hindu mythology: the wife of Vishnu. Made familiar in modern times by Indira Gandhi, former prime minister of India.

Indira has 1 variant form: Indeera."

I love the name Alexa or Alexia -- Alexis is so pretty too! Love the nn Lexi! I don't think it's "common" or "chavvy" personally!

Thanks everyone.

Oooh Indira is cute and the meaning is nice too.....oooh i really like it, will be running that one past DH.

I'm so pleased Lexi doesn't sound "chavvy" or "common" to others. DH loves this one too.

i love the name Indie :) and i like it just as it is! The only nickname i can come up with for it is didi (dee-dee) but i'm not particularly keen on this. I know what u mean about Lexi... I dont think the actual name is "chavvy" but its just an association i've made from personal experience of people i've met with the name :/ i hope that doesnt upset anyone

Indie was on our list for a girl, love it! Not keen on Alexis xx

pixydust - Yeah thats how i feel about Lexi, its annoying because its such a cute name. I actually really love the nickname you suggested, Didi!!...its so cute!!...thank you so so much!!.

x

DiDi is a cute nickname! I think you should go with Indie... nn DiDi! Indie is just such a unique & sweet name --- Go for it!!!!

What did OH think of Indira??

I love love love Indie with the nn Didi.

Yeah...DH does like Indira. The other name that keeps popping up is Noelle. I love Elsie but DH doesn't :(.

I'm not so settled on our boys name...Elijah, i really like it but Indie is such a beautiful unique name that no boys name seems to match up, if that makes sense. So i'm keeping an eye out for equally beautiful boys names.

x

I think Noelle makes a really pretty middle name.... but would only use it for a baby born at least a month before/after Christmas..... like the name Autumn..... i love it, but would only use it in the fall!

Don't settle for a name you don't love....... when you find the perfect boy's name, you'll know it!

Yeah, you're right about Autumn and Noelle.

If you come across any boys names you think i'd like let me know :flower:.

DH has decided he's going off Indie and prefers Elsie :haha:. Oh well, we'll see what he likes when the time comes.

I like Indie (and India too!), and I love Elsie - I suggested it to OH as one of ours and he said 'what, is the baby gonna come out a pensioner?' Cheeky beggar!

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like Lexi - I think it's really chavvy, especially when double-barrelled with something else. (I even saw Lexi-Gemini once for a little girl - the mother was 17 and had just lost twins the year before so thought she'd name her new baby Lexi-Gemini in tribute, the poor baby - just about sums up everything I think about Lexi )

Alexa, Alexia and Alexis on the other hand I really like - but they'd get shortened to Lexi :D And Alexis is the 'drag' name and alter-ego of one of our friends, so while he'd be very flattered I'm sure, the poor baby would be growing up in the shadow of Auntie James and that's a whole lot of.. woman? man? I dunno.. to live up to!

i love indie!! my OH didnt like it tho coz he thinks of india and doesnt want anything "foreign" sounding lol

indiana is really cute!!!

xxx
