I'm due on the 10th December and been to the midwife today and she said being induced 2 weeks early (26th November) is probably 90% possible due to Type One Diabetes. Which means 8 weeks aaaaah. Exciting now haha single figuares haha :D

Just wondering what happens when being induced and will I stay in hospital from when it happens to having peanut due to diabetes? I'll be on an insulin drip and baby monitored so stuck to the bed!

I am in the US and a Type 2, but I would think quite a bit would be similar.

I was induced at 38 weeks with my son 7 years ago. It was due to both diabetes and my blood pressure. We arrived at the hospital in the evening on a Monday, and my son wasn't born until very early Thursday morning.

They used a pitocin drip and yes I was attached to a lot of various monitors both for my heart, baby's heart, and blood sugar monitoring.

Thanks..

Monday-Thursday! :o! A few ladies whatever reason they got induced for always get induced in the evening, any reason for that?

I was induced at 38 weeks with both my daughters - the first they inserted the gel at 08:00 (was meant to be 06:00am but they had ordered it incorrectly so were late) I was only allowed 12 hours to have her but she managed to be born naturally 12.5 hours after the start. Usually the gel is given quite early often the evening before because it can take a while to start working and sometimes they need more than one gel then the doctors can come and check the next morning. My second child they started at 04:30am. With me contractions with my first child started a few hours after insertion of the gel and with my second child things were even faster and I started contracting about five minutes after it was inserted but very often especially with a first baby it can take up to 36 hours with about three gels being inserted.

I was on an insulin drip with both and monitoring however the monitoring was intermittent so I could walk around at first. I did have an epidural with both children and after the epidural I wasn't going anywhere so they could do continuous monitoring and it didn't bother me. You can walk around with drips quite easily even in labour.

My second labour ended in a C-section as baby's heartrate was dropping severely - I was 8cm dilated at that stage which was a bit frustrating. That labour lasted only 10 hours to get to that point.

After the baby is born they will have to watch its sugar levels - both my babies went to the NICU (we do not have SCBU and so on here so its ICU or back with Mom) for drips with glucose in them and monitoring - this was for me the hardest as I wanted to be with my baby and visiting in NICU is not quite the same as having the baby in the room with you.

Good luck its not long to go now!

I was also on the "standard" induction for diabetics but after talking to the consultant and er telling me that theres no real medical reason for inductions unless a problem arises i have decided not to take the induction and take the extra scans and monitoring in the hope of not having to be induced cause i hate being induced xx

Hi,

I am due 11 Dec and am getting induced two weeks early too ! Though for different reasons. My midwife told me that I would go in the night before and try 3x with the gel then if that didn't work I would move on to an injection. If all failed then I would be having c-section. All this is conditional on the baby being engaged - if baby not then it would be csection!

Can't believe its nearly just 6 weeks away now! getting slightly nervous and apprehensive about it all! Hope your coping ok!

Good luck when the time comes - hopefully will hear from you after!

These next 6 weeks can't come fast enough now! Want it to all happen now ;). When I told OH this morning it's 6 weeks he went a shade whiter in the face and didn't say anything.

Ooops! :)

Followed by the big 'Gulp' lol!

Saw my consultant yesterday and they are now giving me option to wait for spontaneous labour - will get internal in 6 weeks to determine how he is and how my cervix is! LOVELY - cant wait lol!
