If this has happened to you, please tell me about it. It looks like the road I am on and I am the type that needs to know everything that could happen, don't leave out the scary stuff...

I am afraid I don't have any personal experience to share, hopefully someone else can jump in there. Have you already been induced? If you have not been induced yet, what are the reasons they want to induce you? Just remember that doctors have different opinions about the best time and the reasons to induce and they may not be the same as what you believe is in yours and LO's interest. If they don't offer a reason you are happy with you can always refuse. There are sometimes more options than they tell you. I refused induction and went into labour naturally.

I don't not have a "failed induction" story BUT i do have a successful induction story. I too was on the road to having to have an induction. I too was told by alot of other mom's that if i was to be induced that I was just setting my self up for a c-section. I had ran over every single plan that there is out there with my doctor and did WAY TOO MUCH internet homework research.
October 9th I went in for my doctor visit (as i was 4 days past due) He sent me straight to the hospital for a scheduled induction that morning. I was given some type of pill(not sure on name) every 6 hours. It did help me but my contractions were not strong enough for his liking so that evening around 10 pm i was put on pitocin. I then had my epidural. and rested till morning. At 8 am i was at a 7 cm and water still not broke. Doc came in about 930 to break my water and i was then dialted to a 8.. At 10 am i was fully dialated and beagn to push. at 10:57 am i had my beautiful 8 lbs 2 oz baby boy. Inductions are not always scary or end badly.....

I had a failed induction at 40 + 5 which led to EMCS, but it is not as scary as it sounds! I was 2cm dilated when they brought me in for the induction, and was put on pitocin drip. They also broke my water and gave me an epidural right away as the anaesthetist was around then but was disappearing for awhile afterwards. After around 8 hours of being on the drip, I had not dilated beyond 3cm despite manual cervix stretching from my OB. Baby was posterior, which probably didn't help matters, and started getting distressed by the contractions. If they took me off the pitocin my contractions would stop completely.

At that point they gave me the choice of waiting for a few more hours to see if things got going, or just going to C section. My OB said since nothing had happened by now, he didn't see things changing in the next few hours, so I opted to just head for the EMCS and get it over with. The C section was NOT scary at all (at least I didn't find it to be scary), baby was born healthy and I healed fine!

I am trying for VBAC this time but more due to the fact that I now have a toddler to care for, whom I won't be able to lift if I have another CS. If this is your first baby, I think CS is not too big a deal as you can still lift the baby, which is all that really matters when you only have one! I didn't find the recovery that bad but of course everyone is different.

Good luck!

Its a very very long story but my induction sucked and was the worst experience of my life. I went in Saturday got the cervidil Sunday started pitocin. I wasn't progressing so Monday they decided to insert a Foley behind my cervix to basically manually dialate and the was the most painful thing I have experienced ever ever. DO NOT LET THEM DO THAT TO YOU. Eventually Tuesday morning my son was born by csection. Honestly the csection was the best part. Recovery wasn't as bad as expected. I'm leaving so much out but if you can avoid the induction don't do it.

dinkery- how are you and your LO? Hoping things are going well for you. Did you have an induction?

I was scheduled for an induction on may 31st 2005. That same day i had an appt with my Dr who said I was 1 cm and soft etc said if I wanted to be induced I could be induced since i was 2 weeks overdue. I went home and prepared myself and was scheduled to come in that evening, but my water broke in early afternoon. Got there and I was about 1-2. No major contractions - they wanted me to walk on my own up and down a short hallway. Which seemed to start helping my contractions intensity increase. But they allowed me to labor on my own for about an hour. then they said they could go ahead and give me pitocin as it would help speed things up. Well it didnt.., they kept increasing it and the contractions were more than I could handle. It was horrible. I have given birth 3 time previously before that and I have NEVER had labor pain like that. I had only gotten to 4 cm with extremely intense contractions and my daughter starting showing signs of fetal distress, heart had decels and needless to say - ended up with an EMCS. I really do not like pitocin at all. I was not worth it and had I known then what I know now- I would have told them to either let me labor there or send me home to labor. Every woman I know who has had an induction failed. Im not a pessimest as I know there are very successful stories- but I dont know of any. 6 women who are close to me had inductions and all ended up with c section. What I think about inductions is like trying to peel a bananna before its ripe. When you try to break a rip bananna it just peels with no harm, when you try to peel a green bananna that is not ready - you are forcing it open or have to cut it open. My dr now agrees no induction and no pitocin. Im a VBA3C candidate and He believes pitocin causes more harm than good. I consulted with a midwife as well and she believes pitocin was the cause of my first c section.

Just equip yourself with as much knowledge as possible and speak up. the choice is always yours- just know that. XOXO

I had a failed induction leading to an EMCS with my first. My birth story is in my signature if you'd like to read. :flow:

I've never had an induction but I know several women who have and have all had a vaginal birth. My sis had an induction with her first as she had pre-eclampsia. She said the worst part was how fast the contractions got BAD but once they put the epidural in, she was fine. Labor took 8 hours from start to finish. My DH's aunt has been induced every time as she goes to her due dates, measures big (despite no GD), and has big baby boys. She's never had a c-section. Just because you are being induced doesn't automatically mean a bad experience or lead to a c-section. Just know that the contractions are harder and more intense sooner and have your pain management plan in place when you start.

I had failed induction. Induced cause my waters had gone with no sign of labour. Pain wasn't unbearable just very unpredictable without the gradual build up of natural contractions. I didn't dilate past 3cm after 7 hours and had foetal blood taken x2 as worried re foetal distress... Ultimately had the emcs....section was fine...didn't really feel like an emergency!

My advice if your being induced is to consider an epidural and check how long they will leave you before emcs as think the evidence suggests if your not progressing well after 6-7 hours chances are you won't progress and will need a section. Don't let them drag it out for days then make an exhausted you go through surgery!!
