I'm hoping to find out if anyone else has had a similar experience with induction or if I'm just booked into the worst hospital in England.

I never wanted an induction but was pushed into it by the midwife and consultant because I have gestational diabetes.

I had it delayed by two days and eventually accepted the idea even though I still don't like it.

On induction day I phoned the hospital at 8am as instructed, and was told I would get a call back when they had room for me.

We decided to pop in a little later to find out what that really meant. Apparently they have 8 beds (for inductions) and none of them were free. And none of them became free all day. They asked me to come in at 8pm for monitoring. My son was in bed and my mum had to stay with him, so £11 cab fare later, I went in (with all my stuff just in case), got strapped to a toco machine for an hour, then got sent home (another £12 by cab).

I've now been told to call tomorrow at 10am (no doubt to be put onto their daily induction waiting list). Well sod that. I can't be bothered, let alone afford all these pointless journeys. I'm done with this, unless baby stops moving normally or I have another reason to be worried. I'm just going to let him or her come when it's ready.

I think it's quite standard I'm afraid. They only have a certain number of beds and they need to prioritize. However you will be higher priority having been cancelled once already x

I wouldn't mind so much if they kept people fully informed.

They didn't warn me that this could happen, and since I've never been induced or had a hospital birth before, there was no way I could have guessed. I just assumed that if my induction is booked for Friday, then I'll get induced some time on Friday. I understood that unpredictable circumstances meant they couldn't give a specific time, and that was fine but to me being professional means keeping people informed. They're happy to give me all the horror stories and worst case scenarios that may happen if I refuse an induction, but then they don't give me an explanation of what happens if I agree to an induction.

Also, it's incredibly difficult to make proper plans for existing children when you're in this sort of limbo.

Maybe I'm just upset because so many things are not going to plan and this is yet another thing, but as I said i still think providing proper information helps people to cope better with these type of situations.

I agree they should tell you. I hope you and baby are ok today! Let us know how it goes x
