Induction or ELCS?

I'm 41 weeks tomorrow and was hoping for a VBAC after my daughter was born by ELCS 2 years ago. However this baby is showing no signs of shifting on his own. I have a consultant appointment on Thursday so I need to decide what I want to do. They will probably want to induce me but i'm not keen on that. I was told the more I'm 'interfered' (including inductions, epidural etc) with the higher the chance I'll need an emergency section. If I need a section I'd prefer it to be a planned one. My experience with my daughter's planned section was fantastic, the only reason I chose to try a VBAC was because of recovery time and shorter stay in hospital. I can't imagine the misery of failed induction or labouring for hours and then needing an emergency section anyway. But I don't know if I should at least attempt induction or ask for a planned section. Does anyone have any opinions or advice for me?

I had a failed induction which ended in EMCS and I think if I was in your situation I'd go for a ELCS, mainly because I was in the painful part of labour for 12 hours which left me exhausted, I felt it was wasted time and I would of been home a day earlier than I was and have been much happier if I knew how everything was going to happen. If I have another one ( my experience has put me off for a while lol) I'd try a VBAC but if i was overdue again I'd get booked in for ELCS, it'd just be a much more pleasant experience for me. Good luck with whatever you decide :flower:

Thanks for your reply. I really really don't want to be induced, but I feel like I'm giving up on my VBAC. Though even if I go into labour naturally I could still end up with an emergency section, which would be a nightmare to me. Wish i could fast forward until baby is just here.

hi i had a similer situation as you with my second one i ended up going into labour on my own ten days late but had to have a csection in the end anyway as i wasnt progressing i wish id just planned a section in the first place and saved myself all the agro tbh lol i planned my third one from the start and it was great so personally id go for the section x

Thanks, I'm really thinking I'd prefer a planned section now, let's hope my doctor agrees with me.

I would wait until 42 weeks but then i would have ELCS not induction, not worth the risk of needing another EMCS plus increased rupture, just my opinion though.

I gave birth 10 days ago with an EMCS. My waters broke on the friday night and i was supposed to be induced saturday morning, but i progressed myself quickly so they didnt induce me. I was in labour for 31 hours before i had my EMCS, and it was honestly horrific. My contractions were really strong, and i had a failed epidural. The worst part was labouring for all that time then having to have a section. I would choose a section any day than having to go through that again x

Thanks everyone. I'm now 12 days overdue and I am being admitted tomorrow. They're still trying their best to persuade me to go for induction but I've been told it's my decision and I've decided on a section. I'm just praying I see an agreeable doctor in the morning. I've also been told if I choose section I may have to wait a few more days to be fitted in so I could go up to 14 or 15 days over. Gives baby longer to decide to get out himself though I suppose.
