It looks as if I'm gonna be induced at the weekend and my midwife said that it is a long process. I'm really a bit sad about it as I had wanted to stay relaxed at home for as long as possible before going into hospital :( but also glad to have an end in sight now.

Anyone out there been induced and it not take a long time?
This is my first baby, I've had a sweep today and midwife said I was fully effaced and about 1cm dilated. She said she could feel baby's head and that my waters were bulging infront of the head if that makes any difference?

Thanks in advance for any stories.

I was induced with my 1st. I went in at about 10am and got checked, had a pessary inserted and then basically just hung out with my DH the rest of the day. At 8pm I had a 2nd pessary inserted. It fell out when I peed and I got checked before having another one inserted; this was about 11pm and I was totally unfavourable for labour (cervix high and closed, not effaced etc) and told to get some sleep and I'b g n the drip the next day. An hour later I started contracting and LO was born within 6 hours. I'm not sure whether you'd count that as a slow or fast induction; I count it as fast because once labour started it was quick, but there was a day of hanging around before hand.
Good luck! :flower:

I took 3 days to reach 3cm and then had an emergency c section. But I wasn't at all favourable. My cervix was long, hard and closed. It took a pessary and two lots of gel over 2 days just to get me to 1cm.

My mum was induced with all 3 of hers. Her labours were 6, 2 and 4 hours long respectively.

My induced labour was 8 hours from waters broken to her being born. I had a pessary and was 1cm within 2 hours I was 3 cm and had my waters broken I pushed for an hour and 21 minutes and she was here. That was my first baby. Xx

Nope I was induced at 9.30am and had my son 10.35pm that same day

Good luck

I was induced at around 12:30 PM and had my Jaxon at 3:27 AM!

Good luck!!

nope. my pessary went in at 9pm
by 11pm my contractions were coming every 3 minutes. my daughter was born at 6.32am. so mine was about 7 hours xx

Water broken at 6.30am. On drip and first contraction at 9.00am. My son came out at 11.18am.

So no, not long at all.

Once they put the drip in for me it was quite quick after that (5/6 hours) but there was a lot of faffing about before hand. I went in at 3pm on a Friday afternoon, around 4/5pm I had a pessary which set off irregular contractions by 10pm that evening they were quite strong but nobody would check me because they were 'irregular' I got no sleep that night because they were quite painful. I was finally checked around 8am the next morning to be told I was 4cm and could be taken to the labour ward but there wasn't any beds so I had to wait until around 11am, I had my waters broken not long after, they told me to walk about for a couple of hours, it was 1/2pm when they decided to put me on the drip and my LO was born 7:26pm saturday evening so if they'd of just given me the drip it would of been quite quick!

My shortest induction was 8 hours and my longest was around 15 hours

My induced labor was around 23 hours- I was contracting regularly when I arrived for the induction but not enough to really get much happening. They started the Pitocin around 7am, I started pushing at 10pm, and pushed for 2 1/2 before my little guy arrived.
This time I want very much to avoid induction and begin labor on my own, labor naturally, etc., but will do whatever is best for baby :)

Ive had 3 inductions, the longest part was waiting for them to do anything with me! I was completely unfavorable to do anything before they inserted the pessary with my 3 babies and as soon as I had the pessarys(which first baby was 24hrs and each baby after a 6hr waiting game) things went quite fast! First baby, they broke my waters after 24hrs of the pessary and I went straight in to labour and my first baby Ellie was born after a 3hour labour. Second baby, they broke my waters after a 6 hour pessary, not much happened so they started the drip and Georgia was born after a 4 hour labour and my last baby they broke my waters after a 6hr pessary, I contracted a bit, but not enough so started the drip and Jack was born after another 4 hour labour I'd definitely say not every induction takes a long time, and not to worry about what will happen, go with the flow and take it as it comes :-) x

Thanks ladies for all your stories!
Would you believe it though that about 2hrs after writing my post I went into labour on my own! And ironically it took a really long time! 38hrs from start to end!
Again thanks for your replies and I hope they all help someone else who is worried about being induced! 😄
