Well I figured I used to read the birth stories here a lot, and so I should give back to the world so to speak ![haha :haha: :haha:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/haha.gif)
Bubs is now 3 weeks old, but I still remember the labour...
I was induced at 40+4. I would have been happy to go well over, but I had had 2 bleeds and they weren't comfortable with much longer so I just went with it.
I went into hospital on a Tues with a long, hard, closed, high cervix. No sign of it budging, and as the midwife put it, "tight as a fishes arse"
So I got the pessary and was left overnight.
It was removed in the morning and although I had softened, I had not dilated. So I was left for another 12 hrs to "see what happens', and if I was dilating, I would be given the foley bulb to start the process. Luckily, the dr's saw me about 5 hrs after they had planned due to a bunch of EMCS's and it turned out I had dilated myself to 2cms! I was SO pleased: I had been having contractions though so I thought *something* must have been happening.
I was left until the morning when they decided to break my waters. This doesn't hurt by the way ladies, don't be scared. Nothing had really hurt until then, the contractions were mild but manageable with paracetamol and a heat pack. I was so excited to be getting my waters broken the next day I barely slept...it's such a surreal feeling, being on the ward and knowing the very next day you'll be a mum!! And be facing labour!
So at 7am they broke my waters, and I started contracting on my own but for whatever reason, I was pushed into getting the drip as the midwife said "they want you to have this baby".
But by then I was ready to just get it over and done with, I'd been there for 2 days already!
So they started the drip at 10am. i was able to use my Hypnobirthing while lying on my side, and found it very relaxing, until about 4-5cms. That's when the drip really kicked in...and not going to lie, it was painful. I asked for gas at that point, and DH came over and began to coach me through, reminding me to breathe and that each contraction was one step closer.
From that point on, it was all hands on deck. The contractions started to come hard and fast, and the midwife said soon after "we need to get you to delivery...". I managed to walk to the delivery room in time to have a contraction once I got there, and was able to suck on the gas, phew! AT no point did an epi cross my mind, however it turns out I would not have had time for one! 4-5cms to fully dilated in about an hr...not natural, very intense and overwhelming. A bit after we got to delivery room, the contractions came on so hard and fast I started holding my breath and didn't even realise it: they were,in a word, horrid! 15 secs apart for about 40 mins, and I was in such labour land that I remember it only being about 2 contractions, however it was obviously a lot more! Hubby had to breathe with me or I would have passed out. That's the drip for you...unnatural, such a shame as I found labour OK until then.
Suddenly, I needed to push.It felt like I needed to take a huge poop! Like you're constipated! I was not allowed the gas from then on...however you don't really need it then as it doesn't hurt much, it's just tiring. I could feel bubs moving down with each contraction, felt like a burning sensation. I was pushing so hard and crying, crying because to be honest I hated it! I downed a bottle of gatorade and a bottle of water over the 40 mins pushing...I was sweating like I've never sweat before and had snot running down my face because I was hating life right then
DH kept saying "almost there baby, almost there!" and at one point I turned to him and said "STOP SAYING THAT, WE ARE NOT ALMOST THERE!!"!! ![Blush  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/blush.gif)
Finally, after only 4 hrs and 40 mins of pushing, my bubba arrived! No forceps or anything needed, she came out beautifully on her own: all 9lbs 2oz of her and 55 cms
I did not, however, think "yay I have a baby!" Instead, I thought "THANK GOODNESS THAT HELL IS OVER!!" ALthough apparently I WAS saying "where's my baby? where's my baby? give me my baby!" Both DH and I cried (me mainly because I was in shock after that experience!!) and I held my gorgeous daughter...I admit I didn't feel an instant rush of love, but I certainly thought "wow, you're adorable! little chicky!!"
She was left on the breast for an hr, although after like 20 mins I did say "How long do I have to do this for? I really want a shower!" HAHA. Birth is messy and disgusting.
I had a 2nd degree tear and 2 smaller labial tears, and getting stitched up was painful enough for me to need gas BUT honestly, it's not that bad. You're in a huge state of shock after birth, so it's not the worst thing ever...mainly I was just thinking "No more pain, pleeease no more pain!"
ANyway, that's the birth of my gorgeous baby. I admit next time I will be asking upfront for an epi, however an induction on just gas is something I'm glad I experienced. Hopefully next time I'll have TIME for an epi!!
