Anyone had success with this? My LO is getting increasingly distressed during feeds (both breast and bottle) and he has been prescribed infant Gaviscon. We're on our 5th day of it and I'm really not sure if it's helping. :nope: Just wondering what others' experiences have been? Was there an improvement straight away or did it take a few days?

He is spitting up less (not that it was excessive anyway) but still screams with pain during feeds and refuses to eat anymore after a few mins of drinking.

Oh and it has made his poos like toothpaste! Is that normal?! Looooovely.

Hey.we started it yesterday. I was hoping for instant results but no such luck! We're giving 1 sachet cause LO is 10lbs. How many do you give? Her poos this morning were totally like toothpaste! Eurgh! I've read that some babies don't get any better on it and need things like ranitidine or omepraxole :-(

Hey hun,

We suffered with the same sort of reaction during feeds, although we formula fed as I couldnt BF. Anyway she was put on lactose free milk which made all the diffence.

Have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet to see if it helps?

We used the gaviscon and it also helped with the sickness (she was still sick whilst on LF milk but not in pain) I do believe it can make them constipated though, so try a few tummy massages about an hour after feeds.

Hope shes feeling better soon :-( Poor Bean xx

Worked well for my LO - took about 3 days to notice a difference, but others have said it took theirs a week or more. Oh, and you need to use it exactly as prescribed - made my LO ver constipated initially so I sort of dabbled with it, giving it some feeds and not others, but it was only when I did it exactly as prescribed that it helped. I also find I occasionally have to give Eva a wee top up by cringe after a feed if she's clearly in discomfort.

Thanks ladies. I hope it starts to work better soon. He had some good feeds earlier tonight so feeling more optimistic. We even managed a breastfeed without screaming. O_O I'll persevere with it for a little longer!

Bleh he does seem to be pretty constipated :( He missed his poo day (usually does a poomageddon every other day) and just did two hard little lumpy poos this morning. Grrr. Weekend now so can't see doctor and get advice. Should I keep going in spite of this? I don't want him to strain for poo and hurt his bum!

We use Gaviscon along with Rantadine (sp?) and that works sooo much better than just the Gaviscon did. Her poos aren't that great either but gp said just give get water. If you are bottle feeding her your milk I'd honestly recommend Dr Brown bottles so much!! We started them 2 days ago and the crying/arching back pain when feeding has completely stopped. I know they are expensive but so worth it :flower:

our LO has been on the gaviscon for 3 days. It HAS made a difference to her reflux (being sick when lying down after feeds and squirming during a feed) but she is a little constipated so we are giving cooled boiled water occasionally.
Good Luck!

hi my lo is on it when she first went on it i didnt noticed a diff but after a week she was so much better... but then she got bigger and needed more dosage but she wasnt on 8 oz so had to stick to one where she would spit up again.... nows shes 11 months n cut her oz down she hasnt spat up since last week so im hoping she has grown out of it now but im keeping her on it till i run out as i tried at nine months and worse thing i ever did as she just puked all day soon as i put her back on it she was fine x

So giving a small amount of extra boiled water is definitely safe for young babies? I read in another thread recently that it can cause kidney damage or something O_O so hopefully that's a load of rubbish!!

Infant gaviscon was crap IMO! All it did was give her constipation. My feeling is it only really helps babies with reflux rather than silent reflux.

We tried that then ranitidine and carobel. Carobel was best.

The biggest difference happened when I went dairy free, after 3/4 weeks she was (and still is) a completely different child.
