We started George on infant gaviscon yesterday midday. His poos were normal yesterday, then he had a poo this afternoon and it was like paste... or like pate? Mostly yellow with some bits that were a pale greeny-brown. Is this normal on infant gaviscon? He strained a lot to poo, but then he always strains and pushes like a nutter to poo, even when it's liquidy!! I'm scared he is going to become constipated!

Hi

My 5wk old LO started infant gaviscon (I bf) last week and we had the same.

I initially used 4 sachets a day as she is only 7lb15 and she went over 24hours without a poo. So I was concerned as she was straining too, and like you describe we had the same colour and consistency too.

So I changed the dosage myself to just twice a day and I used a little more water than advised and we seem to have hit middle ground.

So she is less sicky and now goes for a number 2 more often and it isnt as solid...

We're giving him 6 sachets a day and it seems to be starting to work. He's about 9lbs. Maybe I will have to reduce the amount we give him if it carries on... it doesn't seem too bad as it is but i'm worried it's going to get worse.

My LO's poos haven't changed but I was advised they may become 'frothy' because of the the gaviscon

We didn't have a good experience with gaviscon, after LO was on it for 2 days he was screaming uncontroleably for around 1/2 hour trying to poo and when he did it was rock solid :(

Yes my l has 5 bottle a day n doctor told me to use both sachets in one bottle, his poos were small n hard, so I give him water inbetween feeds n do leg movements, went docs today for a review n told them bout his poos n how hard he pushes n screams wen pooin she told me to just use 1 sachet in his bottle instead of puttin gaviscon in all his bottles only put it in 3 or 4 n see if that helps.

Maybe I should try putting it in 4 of his 6 bottles... so he's getting a bit less. Did your babies not react badly to the bottles with no gaviscon in??

Also, how do you give water in between feeds? Started on the gaviscon yesterday, and today he has just been going straight to sleep after a feed and waking up before his next one? Should I give it to him before his feeds instead? Or will it not work properly then?

gaviscon poos stink!!!!!! my LO was very constipated when he has his and now the dr won't perscribe me anything else for him, because he's not bothered by his reflux and is gaining weight!

Oh yes, the "sand poo"! We ended up having to use lactulose to soften them a bit for her.

Today his poos are like adult poos, but still yellowy coloured, but now he is screaming even worse when he is pushing sometimes and he looks like he's in pain. :( He was sometimes screaming when he pushed before the gaviscon, but think it's making it worse. HE seems to be screaming when he tries to pass wind too though... I don't get it and I'm starting to feel miserable trying to figure out what's wrong with him :( He has been fairly settled in between his feeds today... not arching his back when drinking, and finishing his bottles fine. He has always grunted and pushed to get wind and poo out, but why is it making him scream in pain now? I can't bear it!

sounds the same as ethan, he actually hurt himself and had blood in his poo, dr said to give him some in every other bottle and he was still the same, so she said put a 5 mls of orange juice in a syringe and that would help, but he just spat it out, so now i'm just sat covered in sick all day every day lol!
