Anyone had experience with this? My Lo suffers from such bad colic we was referred to a pedeatrican Wednesday night who also said she is suffering from reflux aswell :dohh: She told us to keep her on the same milk (C&G Comfort) and put the gaviscon in with her milk. But we normally put dentinox colic drops in with the milk aswell and she said to stop doing that.

We picked up the gaviscon yesterday but it says that as she is over 10lbs, she needs 2 sachets in 8oz of milk (and no less than 8oz) but we only make up 5oz bottles at a time and tbh im lucky if she even finishes the whole bottle as shes not really a big eater, so there is no way she will finish a 8oz bottle and i refuse to make up 8oz at a time only to waste half of it! But the pedeatrican said this is what we have to do  So ive just made up 5oz bottles as normal and only put one sachet in. Only started using them as of last night but she was so sick this morning it was the worse she has ever been! I know i need to give it a bit more time, but havnt seen an improvement as of yet. Also she is having a hard time bringing up her wind now without the dentinox so do you think i should just start putting them back in her bottle again? Ive tried giving the drops to her after a feed but it dosnt help as much! :dohh:

The thing is, her comfort milk is already quite thick and the gaviscon is just making it thicker so im worried about her getting constipated. She hasn't been a poo since last night and she normally always does one first thing in the morning. Also she is having trouble with getting the milk out as it is so thick. We use TT bottles with vari flow teats and ive had to make the teats bigger which seems to have helped, but ive ordered Dr Brown bottles with level 2+3 teats (to help with the colic) and im hoping she is going to get the milk through these teats! Im wondering whether i should switch to normal cow and gate formula now or just give it a week or so? We have another appointment back with the pediatrican on the 14th so maybe ill just see how she goes? Im just hoping she dosnt get constipated now. Argh just feel like i am going round in one big circle!

not sure my advice will be useful as my lo is ebf but I give her the gaviscon in a syringe. maybe do that so u can continue the dentinox

also, my lo took a while to poo after we started and after each time we upped her dose. but she was never constipated and was regulate again after she got it moving.

also, I started on 2 doses a day which really helped, then upped as time went on......as she eats more she needs more gaviscon. maybe trying less and up if and when u need to?

also, just looking at ur Los age, hopefully the colic will start to ease soon..... fx for u, I know it's horrible!

Yeah i was thinking about just putting the dentionx drops back in the milk, then doing the gaviscon after with a syringe. At least then the milk wont be as thick i suppose. Yes fingers crossed the colic eases off soon as ive had 11 weeks of hell! Must be just as horrible for her tho as it is for me and oh, poor baby :(

I used to put half in the bottle, and mix up the other half with a little boiled water and syringe or spoon feed it her. She used to really suffer with trapped wind too and we used infacol and dentinox but had to stop as they made her reflux so much worse, she would literally bring up the entire feed when she burped, so we had to struggle on without it.

Yeah i give her Infacol before a feed and then Dentinox in the milk. If she really cant get any wind up after and is screaming then i also give her gripe water or calpol (god my poor baby, must seem like i drug her up) although the calpol is only if she is constantly screaming and seems in a lot of pain. She likes the taste so seems to calm her down but i dont make it a regular thing. Well my LO is never really sick loads, its never projectile vomit (apart from this morning!) she is just quite sicky after but it continues throughout the day, even 2-3hrs after feeds so they said it is reflux. Ive never really heard much about it but she puts on weight well so the sick obviously isnt affecting her too much?

Ahh, it's hard when they're in so much pain! It sounds like the reflux isn't bothering her too much at least. My Lo would arch her back and scream for about 20 mins after a feed before we went on the gaviscon, she got wind pain too, I wouldn't say it was colic though. The wind pains improved a lot from about four months so hopefully yours will too. Oh and if LO gets really constipated with the gaviscon it's ok to give her some cool boiled water.

My son has reflux, he has anything between 4-6oz each feed. he used to take 6oz most bottles before reflux. we make bottle upto 6oz and use 1 sachet we used to put infacol in the bottle aswell as gaviscon when he had colic too.

Thanks everyone :) I've got new bottles now (Dr browns) and shes on the level 3 teats and they seem fine, no problems with getting the milk out! She just managed 7oz in one go aswell which was a shocker so she seems happier drinking all her milk. The sick isnt really getting any better tho tbh but im just gonna give it some time! Ive started putting the dentinox drops back in the milk with the gaviscon and its helping her with the wind so FX!

I just use one sachet in a 5 oz bottle and it keeps the milk down fine. I think 2 sachets would be too constipating at once even though it says to use two.

Hi

My 7 week old has silent reflux and has 5oz bottles. Shes been on Infant Gaviscon for 2 weeks and shes 10lbs exactly. My Dr said to give her one sachet in every feed (so half a dose, why are the packets are so confusing?). Shes been on it now 2 weeks and finally we are seeing some results, shes sleeping 6 hours at night and is much happier during the day.

I was told NOT to give dentinox/infacol and IG together as they cancel each other out? I do give her the odd dose of gripe water however in some cooled boiled water if shes having a fussy day.

My LO is on aptamil 1 and although her poos are much more solid she doesnt seem constipated (ive seen her poo several times as she likes to do it once the nappy is off lol) and the water also helps prevent constipation.

So far so good with me but I've read other posts that say IG stops working, really hope it doesnt for my LO as we struggled for 5 weeks with the constant upset and crying thinking it was just colic.

Hope your LO gets better soon

xx

Oh ive never heard about them canceling each other out? Tbh ive noticed my LO is more sick now with the IG than before! I have another appointment with the peaditrican on the 14th so will have to speak to them and see what they say!

I would try giving it separately in half an oz of water, that's what bf babies get so there's nothing wrong with doing it that way and hopefully it will help the constipation. They say to put it in so much milk because otherwise it would get too thick to drink easily. You can normally get away with less but not with comfort milk as it's thick already. Gaviscon didn't work with my LO's reflux at all so I got ranitidine, but the Gaviscon made her colic better

I did try giving it to her with water after a feed but it must have tasted disgusting as she spat it all back out!

im having the same dilema about the two sachets. We give LO one sachet gaviscon mixed with prune juice (5ml) via a syringe. Hv told me to do this with my first LO as stopped him getting constipated. Have been doing that this time alone with colief in bottle for two weeks and seemed to be helping til yesterday and now hes back to really bad smelly farts, screaming and arching back during feeds etc. Dunno whether its because hes over 11lb now needs more gaviscon or its stopped working :(

infamous can make reflux worse, it was when I was giving lo colic stuf that I realised it was reflux as it made it a lot worse.

hey hun my son was on all sorts upto about 11 months old including Gaviscon.

Im just thinking that if she is managing to take 7oz from the dr browns bottles if the hole in pervious teats was just too thin for the milk to flow through at the speed she wanted.. making her tired and therefore not take all she needed/wanted. It took a week or two for the gaviscon to have any effect on my son but it didnt help a great deal with his reflux. He only drank 5oz of milk up until he was 1 year old, never ever went above it. So i had to use 1 sachet of gaviscon in every feed. He also ended up on Donperidone which helped to empty his stomach faster so there was not as much for him to bring up. He was eventually put on a specialist milk as his reflux and weight gain never really improved.

If you find that the gaviscon still isnt helping then take her back to the health visitor/gp and they could try something else.

Also most mummys say the colic gets better (thankfully i never had to deal with colic on top of the reflux) so it can only get better. xxxx

My first had reflux and the meds never worked for him, he ended up on ranitidine and domperidone and it just made him worse and was awful getting him to take them as he was BF. He outgrew it finally at 9 months, but was loads better once weaned. My new baby had a bit of silent reflux, but seems to have outgrown it already hurray!! he was given gavison and I used it for a week, but it just made him fussier and constipated, and he couldnt bring up his wind well at all. So I stopped it and he is now so much better a month later. xx

Gaviscon never worked and my little one just puked everything up. We used Lozec and I didn't use anything cramp water related for the colic as it made it worse.

We thickened her milk with a substance especially for babies and it helped with the reflux as well as the Lozec. I also never laid her on her back and she always stayed upright in an angle.

For the colic we used Bennetts and I firmly believe in the whitenoise. I used to put that on so that she can relax and then I burped her for 45 minutes at a time after each feeding.

Now reading what I typed I can't believe I got through this!

My Hv advised me not to use gaviscon with thickened/ comfort milk as the gaviscon already thickens the feed. It does also state this on the leaflet you get inside the box of gaviscon. I presume it would cause baby more tummy troubles. My LO is on gaviscon, nutramigen and omeprazole but neither one seems to be making much difference!!
