I get really intense Ovulation cramps every 2 or 3 cycles. It comes on slowly with one day of a dull ache and 1 day of just excruciating pain. Usually on the right side. It's to the point where all I want to do is lay down. I felt it coming on yesterday, plus I had a positive OPK so we BD'd. But I am definitely not up for it tonight.

My OBGYN said that it's normal to get some cramping but this couldn't be normal could it?

My questions are... who gets O pain? How severe is it? And do you BD while you have it?

I used to get a really bad O pain. Eventually found I had cysts on ovaries. Had to do depo for a couple of years. After that for a few years I had a weird pinching type pain when O. That went away.
Does your OBGYN understand how bad the pain is? Seems like that would need some looking into. I think you maybe need to explain that it's worse than a little cramping.

I agree with what Libby said. And make sure you find a GYN who is willing to listen to you when you tell them how painful it is.

I used to get such sharp, powerful ovary pain that it'd have me weak-kneed and out of breath. They'd occur off and on every few minutes for 2 weeks of every month, and started to interfere with work, sleep, and worst of all -- driving. If one of those stabbing pains got me while I was driving, I had to take my foot off the gas pedal just to be on the safe side. And all my current GYN said at the time was, "Yeah, but does it actually hurt?" even when I told her I'd be doubled over in pain, gasping for air.

So you make sure you really get them to understand how painful it is. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 or something, with 10 being like.. "arm chopped off with a dull sword" pain and 1 being "not worth taking asprin for" pain.

There are some doctors who don't really take their patients' concerns seriously. If your GYN just thinks its normal, every day type cramps and YOU don't think they are, bring it up again at your next appointment and make sure she knows that they're not normal for you.

:hugs:

Thanks ladies. I will speak up for myself. Does the actual egg release after the O pain?

That's different for everyone. Like for me, I have cysts on my ovaries, so they hurt every day.

Some people only get pain at ovulation, and for some others it's a PMS symptom.

I get O pain every few cycles I find it helpful as I actually know that I'm O'ing! Although it can be soo painful! I put heat on my lower abdomen or have a bath and it eases it a little. I do try and BD although if it's really painful I dont feel like it as sex with O pain can be really uncomfortable. Hope it eases for you soon it can be awful x
