Introduce your furr babies

German Shepherds are one of the most popular dogs in the world so I'm not surprised. Even my mum has a GSD/Rottweiler :haha:

I guess I never knew that! I always figured golden retrievers are the most popular though. How is your moms German shepard/rott mix? Is he nice? Smart? Ours is just a puppy now so I have no clue how he'll turn out but I hope he's good with our daughter and any future babies. We got him because we hoped he'd be a decent guard dog but at the same time be nice to my daughter. DH is gone more than he's here so it makes me feel a bit safer just having him. :haha:

Labs are the most popular breed in the world, I think the GSD is number 3 or something :haha:

Just done a quick google search and according to wiki the GSD is the second most popular dog to have with children (the first being the lab) and I can really see why!

My mum's rott/GSD is beautiful but she looks completely different from yours. My mum rescued her at 1.. this is an older pic, think she was about 3 here (she's now 10 or 11 I forget which one)

Any dog will be a guard dog so no worries there though I have to tell you my GSD is USELESS at guarding. She's doesn't bark and is super friendly so she'll let anyone in

She is pretty! Not as big as I would have expected though. I think Diesel is going to be a giant. At least compared to my pom. :D

Well I have to say my mini pom couldn't be a guard dog though. She is the friendliest dog I've ever seen. She has even jumped in neighbors cars when they were getting ready to leave because she wanted to go for a ride. :dohh: Thank god they were humorous about it and didn't get mad.

We talked about getting a lab but DH had one that did nothing but chew up everything in sight so that was quickly vetoed.

You don't need a big dog to deterr most intruders, a bark is usually sufficient :winkwink:

That's where a lot of people make the mistake when getting a lab. They don't realise that puppyhood and adolescence with a lab is for the most part HARD WORK! They are bonkers!

My GSD had her own fair share of moments but she's much calmer than any lab.

My mastiff though... well she ate part of a wall so yeah, that should tell you something

:haha: Aww. Does your Mastiff drool a lot? I think they are such good looking dogs. I always loved dogs with the wrinkly faces. My ultimate dog would be a shar pei but that is WAY too much maintenance.

Not really. She does the stereotypical drooling when hungry, when she's had a drink and when she's been for a longer walk than usual (she gets froth then too) but other than that she doesn't drool a lot.

My kitchen always looks like it's got a small river in it though :haha:

Shar peis are lovely... definitely not my sort of dog though, too high maintenance.

Agreed about shar peis. They are so nice to look at though. When I see one I get a twinge of envy but know it's not a realistic dog to have. And when they are puppies they are SO cute. I just want to squeeze them all. But than again most puppies are cute. :D

We kinda took over this thread. We should start a pet/animal group chat thread! Than we can talk about all kinds of things. :D

This is Tegan Puppins :cloud9: She's a chihuahua/cairn cross and she's 2!! We've had her since she was 6 months old, and I wouldn't be without her! She's totally spoilt (she has 4 different beds lol). She's quite clever, she 'high fives' and when I turn the tv off at night, she runs into the spare room and gets into her crate and waits for me to close the door lol. The only bad thing about her is that she refuses to come back when she's called, and she steals socks and hides them behind the oil tank in the garden, where I cant reach  We took her to be groomed for the first time last month, and only wanted her trimmed, told the groomer not to put the clippers near her, yet I came back to find a bald Puppins :( I cried and cried! Its grown bak abit now, but she's never gona be the same again! Oh, and she has her own facebook lmao

The day we got her

I'm always posting about my fur babies so here are some pictures :)

We have the 3 Jack Russells and 5 cats .... but the cats aren't all co-operative when it comes to photos so 3 of them (Soots, Lillie and Buddy) are missing from the line up LOL

This is Molly - our oldest (she's 9) and crabbiest kitty

https://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af263/MarieBriscombe/DSCF6420.jpg

This is Orlando ... the soppiest, floppiest, sweetest natured cat you could ever hope to meet :cloud9:

https://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af263/MarieBriscombe/DSCF6380.jpg

Here's Biskit .... attempting to beg for kitchen scraps as usual!!

Barney - showing off his 'HMV Dog' patch to it's best advantage

Biggles - sleeping as usual :haha:

Ack, 3 Jack Russells in one house? You are brave woman! I grew up with them and now purposely have big lazy dogs, lol.

This is Carol, she's a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, about a year and a half and 100lbs and growing:

Sally is just two weeks younger than Carol, and is a Leonberger. She's just as heavy but much taller, not as bulky yet:

Kira is actually the newest member of the dog pack. She's a 12.5yr old Standard Poodle I took in when her 89yr old owner had to go into hospice. She was brought into the vet where I work to be put down because the owner didn't have long left and she didn't want her to go to a shelter and be put down there because no one adopts dogs that old. I am a sucker though and took her in :). She's an absolute sweetheart, once she got the idea that we don't wake up at 4:30am like her owner did, hehe.

Charlie came home from work as a very sick 6 week old kitten. Now he's a big pain in my butt who is a total momma's boy and I love him!

This is Lola who I adopted so Charlie could have a friend. She is the most snuggly cat ever but I think she's plotting to get rid of me so she can have OH all to herself:

And you know how third children never have their picture taken? Yeah well, we just got a new kitten that I took in to bottle feed at 2 weeks old. I swore we weren't keeping her so didn't take any pictures but she ended up staying, lol! She's a tortie like Lola though and is basically a mini-lola. I do need to get pics soon though heh.

This is my old man horse, MT, about 5 years ago. I've had him for almost 20 years but sadly he's been very very sick lately and despite a ton of testing we can't figure out why. If we can't solve the puzzle soon I'm going to have to let him go and it's beating me up something awful!

https://www.metalmom.com/MT%20kids%20lex.jpg

Decaf is my new girl. I got her 4 years ago when MT had to retire from riding. She's a Hanoverian/Thoroughbred and the sweetest thing ever, despite being HUGE! She's 6 this year and I still refuse to measure her cause I just don't want to know. At last check she was 17.2 hands high!

My daughter's pony, Blackberry, aka Captain Carrot. He's an auction special that turned out to be a great little guy.

Okay, and that's everyone that's mine :)

here are my babies, though theyre not little babies anymore. theyve just turned 2, and as they are great danes, they are finally starting to fill outwards and not grow upwards anymore :haha: kids absolutely love them and the dogs are great with the kids, except a few accidental knock-overs lol.
