Introducing a bottle

Do you mean breastfeeding+bottle feeding combined or completely bottle? The nurse told me if you run low on breastmilk or have to give formula that it must be done with a cup to avoid nipple confusion.

Yes, BF and bottle combined. It doesn't have to be done with a cup. You just shouldn't introduce a bottle until the baby really has BF down and no latching on. Between 4-6 weeks is the general consensus. She will only be having the occasional bottle so we can go on dates and one day a week when I have to see clients.

We gave her the Adiri bottle tonight (Thanks Marge for suggesting them) and she LOVED it! She took to it right away. YAY! I'm MUCH less nervous about having my mom leave now.

Yay!

I'll have to make a point to get one of those bottles now. I like the drop-ins, but I think she's gonna get way more gas with it than with the adiri...

Glad you like it!

So if a baby is older than six weeks he can have breast supplemented with a bottle instead of cup?

It's that by that timr their latch is well defined for them so the chances for confusion are greatly reduyced. Same with pacifiers..

My boy still hates pacifiers.Am a bit too scared to try the bottle as I love breastfeeding.Might wait a bit longer.

It's nipple confusion, but not that way, she's confused and doesn't know what to do. I went and bought the bottle somebody on here recommend, I can't remember the name of it, we are going to try it today. I finally found a paci she will take so maybe now this bottle will be the trick!

Just out of curiosity, what dummy was it that you got her to take? Skye will not take one, but I feel during her restless few hours at night it could really help calm her down...ive tried numerous types, she just will not suck them!

I heard the Adiri bottles have leaking problems so I have never tried them, maybe I will have to pick one up.

It was finally the Mam for newborns. If you compare it to the Avent or Nuk newborn ones, it's a MUCH shorted nipple. She still doesn't love it, but once in a while, when she's in the mood she will take it. She never took the Nuk, and the Avent only when she was REALLY in the mood.

Like a dummy, I didn't read the directions on the bottle, I thought a bottle was a bottle. So I put it in the bottle warmer and was warming it up and it was taking forever (never shutting itself off) and all the sudden I looked and milk was boiling in it! I freaked out and pulled the bottle out and dumped the milk out of the warmer (the milk in the bottle was barely warm). I went and dug the instructions out of my garbage can (the big can outside mind you, thank goodness it was the recycling and not the garbage) and it said not to use it with a bottle warmer (should've read that first). The bottom of them has a vent on it and the water in the warmer pushes the vent up and makes it leak. They are supposed to be coming out with a cover for it. And you have to fill the bottle with the lid on it, or it leaks out of the nipple. (Again, if I would have read the instructions, I wouldn't have had to figure that out the hard way). But she loved it and took it no problem, SO worth all the struggles to figure it out!
