Sophie Louise was born on 20th June 2012 and here is her birth story!

On Tuesday 19th of June i woke up with some cramping, I knd of though something might be up but didn't tell my Husband as i had a Midwife appointment anyway and didnt want to get his hopes up. This appointment was my 40 +4 appointment. The week before i had had a stretch and sweep and was 2cm dialated and at this appointment i was only 4cm. By the time i left my appointment i could hardly walk but had to drive home.

By the time i got home the pain was quite bad but my hasband needed to do some delivering so i told him i was in labor but it was fine and he could go delivering, and hour there and an hour back pluss the time he was there, meant i was in agony by the time he got home.

During this time i had rung the L & D ward and told them what was going on and they told me to have a bath, big mistake, made everything so much worse for me, so i rang them back and they said to go in. The hospital is over an hour away from where we live.

So when my husband got home he wirted me up to the TENS machine, it really helped, i may have got a bit addicted to the boost button. at 15:30 we got to the hospital where they checked me over again, had i lived closer they would have sent me home but i got admited to the labour ward.

No one came to see me for over 3 hours wheni was up there and i really needed pain meds, my husband even asked for them andnothing came. However, the night staff were fab, sat with me for ages and had to sort my TENS out as it fell to bits and was giving me sever electric shocks.

At one point i was in so much pain i was given pethadin, and hooked up to a CGT. my contractions and Sophies heart rate were working against each other and they were becoming worried. at 0630 i was told i was going to the delivery room and to ring my husband to come in. However, they had to wait for someone to be movedup so i could go down.

By the timem y husband arrived i was in aggony and noone was explaining what was going on. However haveg the pethadin had made sophie struggle to move downt he birth canal.

08:30 they had to break my waters, it was going every where, i had to walk around with 3 bed sheets between my legs. I was then hooked up to the CGT again, however it kept disconecting or not regestering my contrctions or Sophies heart rate. I then started to use gas and air but it made me feel really sick.

The MW and the DRs kept having little meetings in the corner of the room andit was decided to leave me a bit longer. The pain had gotten so bad i begged for an epiduaral, however there was only one anethitist in the hospital and he took forever to come. in the mean time they tried to canulate me in both my arms, a week later im still black and blue. By the time they came to do the epidural it was too late i was having to push. Drs raced in and i had to have an epesiotomy and Sophie was born via vontouse deliver.

Her head was in the wrong position to come out and she was far to sleepy. However once born she was just perfect, cried straight away and we had pleantly of skin to skin contact.

My birth plan went completely out the window though which was dissapointing but it had to be done for the safety of my beautifl daughter. Through out the labour i lost alot of blood so had to stay put for a long time.

once back on the ward yet again i was ignored, no meds were offered apart from clexaine due to the blood loss.

I wasnt shown how to do anything on the ward, my epesiotomy sight was never looked at again and i was sent home with no pain reliefe.

All in all i had a very traumatic labour but Sophie is worth all the pain.
