Well, I am Tracy. If you'd told me two days ago, I'd be posting to this forum I would have laughed uncontrollably. So, I'm typing with nervous hands. I turned 40 in December and will be 41 when baby is born.

This pregnancy wasn't "planned," but both DH and I are thrilled. We haven't shared the news yet since it is so early on....I'm 4 weeks.

We have 3 children--all boys (16, 15, &12).

The 16 yo was born at 36 weeks--7lbs 4oz--no complications.

The 15 yo was born at 32 weeks--4lbs 40z--21 day NICU stay, basically a feeder/grower. I had pneumonia and really think I coughed him out!!

The 12 yo was a 29 weaker and is non-verbal/autistic. During that pregnancy I had a clotting disorder (antiphospholipid antibody syndrome). I was diagnosed at about 18 weeks and was immediately put on baby aspirin and low dose heparin. After a 3 week hospital stay, Zeke was born in March. He had a wicked NICU stay of 110 days.....so very scared of that experience happening again.

Prior to the last pregnancy I had a silent or missed miscarriage at just over 8 weeks. So, my pregnancy history is not stellar! The silent miscarriage scares me the most---that and the possibility of having another special needs child. We are very blessed with an extended support network, so all will be wonderful...if we can get this little bundle of joy here in May :).

I do think a lot of the complications I had were the result of so many pregnancies in a short amount of time. From July 1994 until September 1998, I was pregnant 4 times. I'm praying my body has forgotten all about how hard I was on it and will be a bit more cooperative this time around :thumb up:.

So, couple of questions.....any other moms dealt with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome in multiple pregnancies? I barely tested positive for it in the last pregnancy, and it disappeared after delivery. I was referred to a neonatologist after the diagnosis---wondering if I should start with my OB-GYN or call the neonatologist?? Also, have any of you had experience telling older teens you are expecting? To complicate matters, I am the librarian at the high school the 15 and 16 year old attend. I think they'll be thrilled, but I really don't quite have the words to tell them!

Found out with home pregnancy test late yesterday afternoon and will be calling for doctor appointment on Monday. Because of my history, I think they'll see me pretty soon.

Thanks for any advice/support you can offer--and for reading this ridiculously long post! I'm very thankful to have found this forum since I really can't talk to many people about the pregnancy right now. We live in a hideously small town--once word is out the 40 year old high school librarian is pregnant--the ENTIRE county will know....should be tons of fun...lol.

Hello, welcome, and congratulations! While Im unable to answer any of your specific questions, I would think the best place to start given your history is an early appt. with your OB/GYN. Hopefully someone else who has experienced what you have will be able to chime in.

Congratulations!!!! I don't have any experience with APS (had to google it, honestly), but wanted to offer support to you. Just because you've had it with your last sucessful pregnancy doesn't mean you'll get it with this one. And who knows, this may be your little girl.

You'll know how to tell your sons once you've been to the doc, have seen the baby on the ultrasound, and cannot contain your excitement around them. :)

congratulations. Hope all goes well for you this time x x

I just want to also say Congrats!! I don't know about that condition either but what I can say, is that was over 12 years ago, so ya your body has healed. It usually heals enough 9 mths after one delivery enough to get pg again and be fine. Also, after all these years, maybe they know how to better treat, and manage that condition.

Getting a dr apt right away is the best thing to do. Even if they say no, you didn't have to come in right away, you get that piece of mind.

And, for the record, being 40 and pregnant isn't a bad thing :winkwink: I'm only a year younger then you :) And I don't feel like Im old, but maybe because I've been having kids every 2 yrs now for 10 yrs. It's all in how you feel!

Thanks, ladies :). I have an appointment with my regular ob-gyn next Tuesday, and we'll go from there! I'm doing the baby aspirin religiously and trying to go cold turkey on the caffeine--diet mountain dew diva, here ;). I will keep you posted....thanks again for the warm welcome and support!

Tracy

Welcome! I don't have any answers for you ... I'm a first timer. But I wanted to welcome you and offer my good wishes and support.

Uhm, just wanna say, going cold turkey on caffeine might give u a migrane! Ive done it, finally after suffering for 10 days I went to the dr and he told me to go get a coffee! 1-2 reg cups a day is fine while pg :)

Congratulations and welcome :) hope it all goes well  xx

Thanks so much, happymamma! I had a little "pick-me-up" around 10:00 am--I did fair much better the rest of the day. Compared to the diet dew I was having....I'm being really good :D!
