My 4 month old drinks about 24ozs of formula per day... Is that enough? I put a tablespoon of rice cereal in each bottle and she has 3 tablespoons of rice cereal for dinner. I'm just worried she's not eating enough...

The general rule I was told is 2 to 2.5 oz per lb of baby. If 24oz is in that region then you're definitely fine but some babies are more than happy having a lot more or less than this. As long as they're gaining weight, weeing and pooping its ok.

Ok cause she's just under 14lbs... So based on that she's 4ozs short :S

Is there a reason why you put rice cereal in her bottle hun? For reflux or some other condition? Because I'm thinking that maybe she is just filling up on too much solids which is reducing her milk intake xx

She has reflux due to a stomach hernia so her pediatrician told me to put it in to thicken so it stays down better.

Aw poor little thing, that sounds awful!

Have you thought about swapping to a comfort/staydown formula instead of adding rice cereal to her bottles? They are designed to help with reflux and perhaps she might start drinking more?

I'm just trying to think of suggestions that might help xx

We tried a stay down but her hernia literally opens her stomach valve allowing food to travel up when she moves... So it didn't really make too much of a difference... She's supposed to outgrow it as she gets bigger and her stomach muscles tighten with crawling but for now we just deal with it.

Sorry about the reflux. We have it too and its horrible. As long as your baby seems content, gains weight appropriately, and has wet and dirty diapers I say she is fine. The guidlines are just that guidelines. Some take more and some take less. I wouldn't worry too much or try to make her eat more as shell probably just spit it up anyway from the reflux

My LO is 7 months and had 24oz on a good day. He weighs 17lbs.

We have stated weaning, but doing BLW and he isn't really eating anything yet.

Maybe she just doesn't have a big appetite? As long as she is gaining weight I would try not to worry :)

Omar was 17 lbs at 4 months but he never had more than 24 oz. his average was 20-24 oz & he was fine, he was on anti reflux formula which is more filling than normal formula, he also used to spit out some milk & sometimes projectile vomit, but his weight gain was never affected, he was a big baby. He was (& still) on vit A, C, & D drops as he used to drink a bit less than the recommended for his age & weight xxx

My LO takes about this, sometimes as much as 28oz, but that's rare. He's also just under 14lb at the moment, so I'd say she's doing fine x
