I've never heard of this before, but now I'm faced with it and it's 3am here so I can't call my doctor and ask about this. I've had my cartilage pierced for 2 years and still hurts, which is normal-ish because I was stupid and got it done at Claire's with a piercing gun. :dohh: I NEVER let other people pierce me, but I guess I thought it wouldn't hurt?
Well I took my ring out today because the front was hurting so I went to clean it and my god damn cartilage popped out!
Like there's a clearish white strand of cartilage hanging out of my ear. I don't know if I should pull it out or leave it. I'm going to call my doctor in the morning, but I don't know what to do until then because it hurts soooooo bad.
Help!

Im not a doctor or a nurse or a body piercer but I wouldnt pull it out hun! I would maybe wait til morning call your doctor or go up to the hospital.. I am going all weird just imagining it. Goodness knows what your feeling.. Hope someone can answer you

It's so gross. I can handle "normal" gross things, like people getting sick, sticking your hand in baby poo, the works. But I had to hand my daughter to my mom when I figured out what was hanging out of my ear because I thought I was going to puke.

This just sucks. I have my first day of training for my new job tomorrow (today) at noon! Ugh. This is just my luck.

im neither of them either hun but are you sure its the cartalige that came out and not a hard thing of pus because if its sitting in there for a long time it will make it hurt and eventually come out hard like that. if it was the cartalige the area of the peircing would be all weak so i doubt its that. if it were me i would clean it and put alky or proxide (something like it on it just to keep the infection away, not much u can do

Yeah, are you sure it's not scar tissue?

It broke off/came out this morning and I was investigating it and I'm sure it's the cartilage. I'm fairly certain they shattered my cartilage when they did it. I must have hit it on something that caused the other end to break off and protrude through the hole. It still hurts like a bitch though. :(

have you been to the drs to check it out? If its come out and theres a hole you could get an infection in there. Really hope its ok :hugs:

yikes that sux just make sure its kept clean and it should heal up on its own if it gets bad then go to the doc

i would have jsut cleaned it and shoved the bar back in (or not depending what you want to do) it has happened to me ( i too had mine done with a gun!) and i can say after 5 years it finally hurts no more, but i do have to keep a ring in it overwise i just happens again if i put a stud in.

Wow, I was thinking of getting mine done and you have totally just put me off it! thank you! :hugs:
Hope ur ok hun!! xxxx

hey I do pericings The Clares is dum this makes me so cross stupid you need to get to a shop and get them to take it out and clean it They may have hit a nerve. god people make me so dam angry ADVICE DO NOT GO TO CLARES FOR PERICINGS THEY MOST OF THE TIME MESS UP STUPID THEY DONT HAVE THE RIGHT STUFF .
EAR CARTILAGE PIERCING: If pain, redness or swelling in cartilage persists for more than 24 hours after piercing immediately remove the ear piercing earrings and consult a physician. Remember, cartilage piercing carries a greater risk of infection, permanent scarring and the potential of cartilage deformity.

ANGER
did you read the form they gave you clares will take no responsibility for your sore ear

*I understand that the employer of clares does not do the piercings as a PROFESSION

I'm not telling you off or complaining about you I'm just cross

i went to have a second set of ear lobe piercings but because they only use guns they couldnt cos it was too close to the bone  might just be the one I went to but if its not safe to use the gun on ear cartilige why do some places accept you but others dont? I went to a real peircer after and got it done and my ears are fine

I work in a jewellers and am trained to pierce ears - I totally agree with what you say here.

The number of people who come to us with problems after having their ears pierced at Claire's is unbelievable! Quite often they aren't in alignment or haven't been pierced straight causing problems when trying to change studs.

I don't know what their code of practice is there but every time we do a piercing we have to make a record in a registration book to confirm they are fit for piercing and then not only do we ask them to read the after care procedure, we make sure we tell them the important points - such as what to do if any problems occur.

We always say that if something doesn't seem right to go and see a gp - especially with cartilage piercings!

Yeah, I know. It was THE stupidiest thing I've ever done. It was a total spur of the moment thing and even though I knew the danger of getting it done, I did it anyway! :dohh: Looking back, I have to chalk it up to teenage stupidity because I've grown up in a tattoo parlor and am interning next year, so it's not like I couldn't have gotten it done if I had just waited a couple days. Ugh, I so wish I had thought that through. :nope:

I had asked one of the guys at the parlor about it being sore and he said (after reading me the riot act) that since I'm SUPER fair skinned and bruise like a banana that it might be red for a day or so longer than normal, but that it could be sore for a while. Now, I know that "a while" doesn't mean 2 years, but I asked other people who had it done and they all said that it hurt off and on for a year or two. So I didn't think anything of it.

I took the ring out and I'm just leaving it alone. It's not even worth how bad it hurts. I asked my doctor and he told me to keep it clean, etc. etc. and watch for any sign of infection.

I actually used to work in Claires and did pierce ears, I am also a trained body piercer. I can say that I think it's ridiculous the ppl they let pierce ears!! 16 years old stupid little girls sometimes. I would never have done it if I wasn't confident I could do it. I actually left because I disagreed with it, also I hated HATED piercing babies' ears. gutted.

shame, apart from that it was a brilliant job!
