Hello, just wondering if anyone is considering a water birth? And what made you decide to go for this? Or if you've had one before and would like to share your experience?
Thanks

I'd love a water birth this time. I was supposed to have a home water birth with my son but had to be induced in hospital.

I've heard so many wonderful things about labouring/giving birth in water and the natural pain relief it provides. It also seems a lot calmer and controlled for both mum and baby; I've seen some water births where the baby stays fast asleep!

Me too, i've heard its great for comfort as in back support, keeps you a lot calmer etc. I'm just a bit worried about the gory bit after, like the blood in water so i'm not 100 percent i want to actually go ahead an give birth in water but i would love to give it a go.

I tried :haha: even if you dont birth in the pool, it really helps you during contractions. I got out as id been there for a while, and when it was time to go back in i couldnt

Had an amazing water birth with dd2. Was great for pain relief, and no tears. I'm hoping for one this time too.
Highly recommend them

It wasn't gory or filled with blood afterwards either!

I was a bit worried about that too but it doesn't always seem to be that messy.. I've seen lots of videos and pictures of water births where the water has been pretty clear! I've never bled very heavily with any of my births so I'm not too concerned anymore. Plus it does seem easier to flush the mess away with the water rather than having to worry about ruining my carpet! :haha:

I want one but im scared of pooping in the pool!

I have an inflatable pool in my loft, planning a home water birth :)

Thats what i was thinking, surely would help with contractions. Is there a bed in the room as well as a pool then? Or do they need to move you over to another room if you want to get out of pool? I'm going to be in a birthing unit.

Thanks Yo yo that's good to know as thats whats worrying me. I've also heard is slows down labour, did you experience this? And was there a bed also in your room if you wanted to get out?

I had a bed, a beanbag, ball and a large tub, basically. I went from the tub to the beanbag for most of the time, and then bed.

Normally in pool rooms especially in birth centres you'll have a bed and all sorts of active birth equipment. X

I tried last time but got out as I was very sick and it progressed my labour so quickly I panicied lol. I'm planning me this time as I'm suffering with bad hips and back so hoping it'll help and I'm a lot more prepared this time lol

I'm planning on a water birth!! I want to go as natural as possible and I feel that a water birth is the best way for this for me :) (plus think it'll help OH...he's a bit scared of the birth!)

I've actually considered a waterbirth, I've seen some shows where women have waterbirths and it looks really comforting. the only thing that turns me off to it is after the baby is born, and getting out. I hate when I have to get out of a shower and stuff, I just don't like the feeling of being wet once out of water. Even after I "dry" off its like the moister or something x)

I was in the pool for contractions and pushing, but we had complications so didnt actually deliver in the pool. I cannot recommend it highly enough. My son was back to back and I liken the feeling of the pool as that same feeling when you've been soaked through in the rain and you're cold and your bones ache, and you get in to a nice hot bath. It really did give me the 'aah' feeling. Will definitely be going for one this time too.

Labour was only 35 minutes from start to finish, so no! Although the midwife was great-she didn't get me straight into the pool, but waited until I was nearly ready to push. I wanted to stay on my feet to help things along as long as I could.

It was a midwife led birth centre-the room had a pool, bed, birthing ball, this swing thing to lean on, and bathroom.

Was great!

Oh and don't worry about poo or 'bits'. The mw uses a scoop, like a fishing net to keep the water clear. We were asked to take a cheap plastic sieve with us and that's what she used for us.

I laboured in the pool last time (all day!) and it was great! I had to get out as I'd stopped progressing.

This time around I would like to labour in water again. I'm hoping for a VBAC, so have to have continuous monitoring, but they have wireless telemetry at my hospital and you are allowed in the pool with it. However, there's only one pool on the delivery unit and I'm not allowed in the midwifery-led unit (where they have pools in every room) as I'm having a VBAC so I may not have the option. If the pool isn't available, I'll make sure I stay active and upright.
