Is anyone else super dilated but not in labor?

I had an appointment this morning and I'm apparently 5cm dilated! I've had loads of Braxton Hicks, but no real contractions... I can't help but wonder how long I can possibly walk around like this! I FEEL completely ready to go into labor, but was still shocked to find out the progression. Also, my 2nd and 3rd babies both had labors under 2 hours start to finish, so I'm afraid this one may "shoot across the room" as my DH likes to joke.

Is anyone else dilated but not in labor? With your past babies did you dilate long before active labor started? With DD#1 I was 4cm for a week before labor, but I've heard that's common with first babies.

With my second I was 4cm dilated from 32 weeks to 37+6 when she came. I was on bed rest due to prem labour and how early I dilated though.

Wow! That's amazing! They don't check for dilation before labour here but with my 2nd bub I had a sweep at 40+1 and I was only like a finger tip. No wonder my labours take so long lol!!!
I bet your bub is going to come super quickly.

I'll find out Thursday where I'm at, but I remember with my son I was checked at 40+5 and was 4cm, then ended up going into labor that night...I can't remember if I was 4cm the week before, though! Hopefully you at least have time to get to the hospital.

I was 4 cm at 38 weeks and had a sweep with DS, still got induced at 39+4! Dr. called the hospital to see if I was there bc he couldn't believe that I hadn't gone into labor.

I was 5 cm I'm at 37 weeks in my previous pregnancy but did not go into labor till 40 weeks 4 days.

I was 5cm dialated when my ob did a stretch and sweep 3 days before I was induced, needless to say I didn't go into labour on my own lol. Had my water broken at 5pm, went into labour at around 6pm. Baby was here at 9.27pm.

Wow! I can only hope I get to 5cm before labor lol. With my first I was 3cm a few days before going into labor and my labor was 6 hours. Ive had a ton of contractions and always have. I see a high risk ob because of it. Im actually hoping she will come a wee bit early as my husband just got a new job and my neighbor took a week off in the middle of May. Im due towards the end, but Im hoping lol
