I really love the name Atticus- it just popped into my head today and I really like it. I know it's early days to be thinking about names but I can't help it :haha:

My mum liked a lot of unusual names but decided against them as she worried about what people would say/whether we'd get teased. But she says she does regret that now (although she always wanted to call me Eleanor tee hee). So I feel like we should just go for it?

What do you ladies think?
Also, any ideas on shortened forms of Atticus? I can only think of Atti.

im not much help but i really like the name atticus too!

and idk if this helps, but i have a pretty normal name (amanda) and i got teesed in middle school anyways because my last named is hopper and rhymed with whopper....so i dont think it really matters what the name is, kids can make fun of anything haha but i think if u like the name, use it! also thats not too "odd" of a name, IMO.

If your not sure maybe ue it as a middle name that what i plan to do i love Tobias x

I don't think "unusual" names are cruel -- but be prepared for your friends/relatives to be very opinionated about your name choice...

There is no name that everyone likes.... but i think it's especially challenging with such a bold name, such as Atticus....

Honestly, i think the name is better suited on a dog... a large dog... like a Great Dane... NO OFFENSE... just my opinion :flower:

A nickname option can be "Gus" perhaps??

I think its a great name! At my last ultrasound the technician was telling me about good friends of his that have 12 year old twin boys, named Silas and Atticus and that even he thought the name was spectacular.

I love Atticus :]

As for a cute nickname, I love initial ones! Something like AJ is super cute ;D

Atticus is great!!!

An unusual name is not cruel at all! Unless it's PeanutButterSandwhich or something :P

*Adds Atticus to her personal name list*... teehee

I fell out of my attic and broke my knee... This name makes me think of that horrible incident!!!

But had that not happened it would be nice... Although, it also makes me think of nervus sciaticus!

Sorry, that post sounded really rude. I hope I haven't offended you... Cx

1. I love Atticus 2. My name is Nia. It's unusual here in the US only not so much anymore sense it's also an African name and a day of Kwanzaa. Anyway I was never teased and liked being the only Nia. It only ever sucked because I never got my name on pencils and things. My sisters both have what are considered unusual names here too and they love them. So to answer your question no I don't think it's cruel. Friend's and family may think you're crazy but they're going to have opinions on the name no matter what you pick.

not cruel at all :) as long as its not way out there but Atticus is a name just not used often my son is Zander and I love him having a name that you dont run into all the time! I like it :)

I love Atticus! My friends cat is called Atticus but it's a great name nonetheless, I don't think it's cruel. The only cruel thing about a name is the people who might tease about it. x

I love it! I have an unusual name and have never even met anyone with the same name and I think its great.

I worried about stuff like that too! It is very different! I'm not a fan of Atticus but I can see the appeal!

My best mate is called Nerolie (rhymes with merrily), it's from New Zealand apparently. She was never teased about it.

I personally love that name!

My youngest child is 9 weeks old and his name is Herbie Jude. After having my son we had four girls so I've loved the name Herbie for ten years! We've had mixed reactions but I couldn't give a rat's bumhole what anyone else thinks. I love the idea of a 16 yr old boy called Herb! If you like that name then have it!

Atticus is an awesome name. It was very high on my list of names for Isaac. Not cruel at all. =]

Great name!! Go for it!

We've decided on a very unusual name for our bump, in fact I still can't believe OH loves it. Some people didn't like our name choice for our son, but I absolutely love it. It doesn't matter what anyone else says, if we all had the same plain Jane names, the world would be a boring place!

Atticus is a great name and, for me at least, invokes thoughts of a very strong, brilliant man. Good choice!

I dont think there is any such thing as an unusual name nowadays! x Go for it
