I am making some coleslaw for Christmas dinner like I do every year. I have just learned that they are to be avoided during pregnancy because of Listeria???

I am confused... Is homemade one with shop-bought mayo and salad cream ok?? I rarely buy the ready-made coleslaw from shops because I can make some myself.

Any advice please! Xmas dinner won't be the same without it!!!

As long as you know who made it, and trust their cooking practices, it should be OK. My grandmother used to leave perishable things like boiled eggs and mayo-based salads out of the fridge, so I learned very quickly to avoid those foods at her house. The main problem with those types of foods at restaurants and the deli is you don't know who prepared them, and what the cooking environment is like.

Yeah, I'd learned that from my last pregnancy after I had gastric flu! I was so worried cos I got sick the night after I had a beanburger and salad for lunch at a supermarket cafe....never again!!!

Now, I am very careful when it comes to eating out. My first pregnancy was easy which is weird!
