So my lo loves standing and if someoneis holding him he will stand up for ages and can even stand holding on to the sofa for about 10 secs before falling sideways ! But my mum said it can make him have bowed (sp?) legs! Is this right? Should i not let him stand up for long even tho he loves it and doesnt seem uncomfortable or anything? Will it damage his growing legs?

He doesnt do it all day he does lay down and play with his toys and sits down in his bumbo or on someones lap during the day too!

Thanks x

What your mum is saying is a common belief that has proven to be a complete myth. The 'worst' that can happen from letting an eager baby stand as much as they want is that they might turn out to be an early walker and you'll have to run around after them sooner than you expected. ;)

Its fine. My LO loved to stand (supported) from a few weeks old, she's always been very strong. She pulled herself to standing from 6 months, stood unaided at 7 and was walking at 9 months...now at almost 11 months she tries to run. Some babies just want to get on their feet early xx

No it's fine. That bow legged thing was mainly down to poor diets. I used to let my lo do the same at that age.

That sounds silly. My baby is the same way, he loves sitting or standing and was able to support his full body weight for a second by 3 months. Some babies just like to be active.

Thanks ladies! It was so cute! He looked so proud of himself standing by himself and just holding the sofa! With my husband close behind him waiting to catch him!!

Lol, from 4 months clear through till she walked alone at 13 months, this is pretty much what Lane did all day, every day. Not one for sitting and playing, just wanted to stand and/or finger walk. No bow legs here!

Make sure you have some Advil or a heating pad nearby, it will kill your back! ;)

Totally fine. :) my mil said same thing. Lo wanted to stand since 6 weeks. But started standing holding onto something at 5 months.
Let the baby stand!

I was wondering this. Joel likes standing and can bear weight on his feet for about 30 seconds. He is freakishly strong, glad it won't damage him!

It's the biggest myth that LO's can get bandy legs from standing too soon.

My LO has been standing from about 11 weeks, it's his favourite thing to do and he loves standing at the coffee table watching TV. I doubt it's doing him any harm.

will do them no harm. I hold my 8 week old up so he can stand as he loves it. did the same with DS1.. he stood just holding hands by 4 months and on sofa like yours.. he was cruising by 6 months... walking with a push along walker at 7 months and walking independently on his own outside at 10 months xx

Im so glad to hear that let him stand won't mess up his legs, my mom told that it would but he loves it so much that I still let him small amounts
