When Liam was tiny I got a mothercare 2-way carrier and have since used it about 3 times. It's so uncomfortable and kills my back...

So for Amelia I have bought a mei tai...It arrived a few days ago and I put Liam in it to try it out. He was SOOO weightless!! It's only a cheap one of ebay but I'm really impressed with how light he feels in it.

I don't have much of a bump yet so could put him in a front carry. He's only just under 10kg so a tiny boy..but would it be safe for me to do so?

What about when I have a proper bump that will get in the way of a front carry? Would I be ok to put him in a back carry tied under/around bump?
Or should I just stick to putting him in the pushchair?

We're off to messy play today and I'd quite like to wear him rather than leaving the pushchair in their hallway.

The mei tai is ideal for pregnancy. The only problem I can forsee with front carry is him trying to knee/kick your tummy. I would really recommend back carry at his age! I started back carry at 6 months and can't imagine anything else - it's also more preferable to toddlers so they can see the world ('cause we are boring...)

From what I've heard, it's the same as anything strenuous. If you've been baby wearing since before you were pregnant, you're ok to carry on as your muscles are conditioned for it. It's probably not advisable to begin half way through a pregnancy.

I also wouldn't front carry while pregnant, but I'm not sure if that's just me or whether that's not advised. As I understand, the best way to carry while pregnant is a woven wrap tied tibetan, as nothing goes round your waist, only your shoulders.

There are some ladies around here who I know have experience of carrying while pregnant and tandem carrying, so hopefully someone will pitch in :)

If you would still carry him in your arms, I'd say you're ok to wear him as long as it's comfortable.

I wore Jack when I was pregnant, I use to tie under my bump and use a back carry. To be honest thou I stopped at 20 weeks cos my pelvis was getting very sore. Jack was 22months by then

Thanks ladies.
No one had replied when I left so I decided to try it out and wear him in a front carry. It was only a 10-15 minute walk. I managed fine but was getting a bit achey.

Going to try tomorrow to put him in a back carry and just go to the shop (1 min down the road) to see how it is. I won't be wearing him all the time but it will come in handy to put the carrier in the changing bag for trips to places he might be okay to walk..so if he can't I have back up rather than an aching arm.

Racheal_C I still carry him my arms ALOT. He had an ear infection 3 weeks ago and wouldn't let me put him down...wish I had the carrier then!! I held him constantly for 3 days and when I wasn't holding him he was using my arm as a pillow.

excuse me...off to watch youstube videos of how to tie back carry:thumbup:

Sure is. Make sure the waist area is below the bump. I wore mostly on my back and hip while pregnant.
