Hello ladies,

My dd is coming up to 18 months and I would like to stop feeding her during the day. We have s lot of gaverings and events to go to coming up soon and my dd can be very demanding and pulling down my top, trying to get under with it etc.. We already feed all night long as we co-sleep and we always have a mid morning feed and a long bed time feed with story's she also eats really well with her solids and drinks from a cup. Is guess I just feel like I'm done feeding her through the day now she is getting very big and running everywhere. But because she isn't talking properly yet, I can't explain to her why she can't have mummy milk right now as I don't think she will understand. I feel torn here :-(

It's never OK for a mum to feel humiliated by her child's feeding habits. She may not be able to talk but she'll understand loads. You can teach her a hand sign for milk and make a rule that she has to ask for milk, not just pull at your top. I found that my LO associated my lap with feeding, so I found that the more active and upright I was the less she thought about feeding. Try to delay public feeding if it makes you uncomfortable by explaining you will feed her but not until you get home/get to the cafe wherever you feel OK about feeding.

Thank you for your reply. sounds like a good idea to get her to ask for milk in sign. I'll have a look on Amazon for books on teaching this

I think there are YouTube videos about signing which would be cheaper than a book.

This is true, but I could do with a book on weaning a toddler off the breast in general snd something that has sign in it for non talkers would be ideal
