Yesterday I was getting my hair done and was talking to my hairdresser about the horrible acne I got after having Elliott. She recommended a skin care line she sells ( of course :dohh:) but said I couldn't use it because it has salicyclic acid in it to fight breakouts. I came home and noticed my face wash and lotion also have this in them, which I used through my entire pregnancy!! My baby's fine and has no problems.... So Is it true we shoudl avoid this while breast feeding and during pregnancy? I've looked online a bit but have found mixed answers leaving me Ben more confused

Although it won't have done any harm so far; the reason why it isn't advised is that salicylic acid is basically aspirin; and aspirin when babies have a raised temperature etc can potentially lead to a condition called reyes syndrome-even in the small amounts via breastmilk. Aspirin isn't recommended during pregnancy because it can cause thinning of the blood xx

Yeah...I stopped using my acne face wash during pregnancy because it had salicylic acid in it and I read it wasn't good to use. Thankfully my face has (temporarily?) cleared up for the most part since having LO and I haven't had to resume using it

So stopping use of that particular wash and lotion for now is probably the best idea... What do you gals use that works well?

oh ive never heard of this before

I never knew this until recently either, I did use the l'oreal dandruff shampoo that contains it when LO was really small (before I knew about this or that l'oreal are part of nestle) and all was fine. I never used it again as I have found my dandruff doesn't respond to salicylic acid like it used to anyway xx

Wow I didn't know about this at all! I used Nude skincare products and Aveda haircare. Both companies focus on natural ingredients and I think they are great

Oh and to tackle acne in a gentle way, have you tried Eve Lom cleanser? It's pretty pricey but a tub lasts FOREVER. I found that the most of the acne solutions really strip the natural oils in my skin and feel really harsh. The Eve Lom cleanser really deep cleans your face but doesn't dry it out, I don't even have to use moisturiser afterwards.

I use a benzoyl peroxide face wash... I think that's OK?? But I'm pretty sure the moisturizer I use has salicylic acid in it. :dohh: Took me forever to find something that worked on my skin... not looking forward to searching for something else!!! :nope:

It really sucks that they don't make safe hygiene products for pregnant or nursing women! :(

I just use plain warm water to wash my face and if i have make up on or skin is a bit dry then add a bit of olive oil to the water and for spots i put a few drops of tea tree in, at first my skin didnt respond to it since it had been used to proper face washes cleansers etc but now it does and my skin is more healthy than ever before! xx
