Is my baby feeding too much? - C&G Comfort

Yes it can; also 3 weeks is prime growth spurt time-so babies may take many oz more than usual for a few days, this is completely normal. BF babies feed more often, FF babies feed more often and may need a few extra oz in each bottle. Although its not the 3 week growth spurt I have heard of babies going up to 9oz at the six week one :o then when the growth spurt is over they go back to more like 5 or 6oz a feed. My second youngest was on C&G comfort also and we had the opposite; it was hard to get him to drink the recommended oz per day but as he was happy on it and gaining an average amount of weight on it and otherwise thriving I felt no reason to try him on something else. If your baby isn't piling on 3lb in weight a week I really would not worry at all :D xx

Babies have sooo many little growth spurts that feeding on demand whatever they want is the best way imo. It is easy to waste a lot of milk, but it does settle back down again. Growth spurts only last a couple of days, and you will soon recognise the signs of when your baby is going through a growth spurt (sleep differently, can be tetchy, eat more etc). Personally I would not use hungry baby milk, as I see it as a milk that can delay weaning. My boy is a big baba (91st centile), he is taking 8oz feeds and now draining them. He is showing no signs of being hungry or ready to wean (he is 13 weeks old). He is growing at the normal rate and following his centile line perfectly. When he does start showing signs like changing from feeding every 3 hours to every 1.5hr, or waking through the night for a feed (he has been sleeping through for a number of weeks now), I may introduce hungry baby milk - but to me I want to get as close to 6 months weaning as research is in my opinion there for a reason. But on the other hand, we are all mothers - we only try our best and what we think is right for our babies, so I am not starting an arguement...

My LO is on hungrier baby milk (C&G) and is so much happier than before. She brings up her wind fine and we don't use Infacol now. :flower: she even STTN 12pm-7am. In the day she goes about 3-4 hours though, but she has a set feeding routine (established by her) not bothered what people think about me putting her on it earlier. She's happy and doing very well. The box says it's suitable from birth and HV says I'm doing great and my baby is doing perfect. If she needs weaning earlier I'll deal with that then. I'm happy and my babies happy. Each to their own.

Thanks ladies - my LO had 6oz yesterday afternoon and evening, then only 3oz at each feed during the night (3 feeds) and this morning she is now hungrier again and has just had 5oz. I guess she is having her 3 week growth spurt!
We are starting to recognise now when she is still hungry rather than assuming its wind when she cries after a feed. Difficult to make up her bottles to the correct amount at the moment as sometimes she has 1.5 bottles other times just half (we have the Avent 4oz bottles).

Hope she settles soon!
