DH and I have always loved the name Oscar from way back when we first discussed baby names at the beginning of our relationship. My research now I am pregnant seems to show that it's becoming really popular. I don't know that many young children so if any of you who are around more babies than me can help that would be great. Is it quite common?

The other name we like is Rowan. Which name do you prefer.

Middle names are likely to be Stuart for Oscar (after my dad) or Edward for Rowan (after my grandad) I would prefer to use my dad's name over my grandads but I'm not sure how Rowan Stuart sounds

Sorry for all the advice needed and questions asked!

Oscar is very common but it remains one of my favourites. I couldn't get OH to agree to it for a first name so settled on using it as a middle name but a little glad as I hear it all the time! Lovely name though!

Don't like Rowan for a boy.

I like both Oscar and Rowan. Oscar would be more common but not v common where I live.

Interested to hear what others think about Oscar...

X

Oscar is not very common where I am but I think it's such a cute name. I think Rowan is great. It's just really common here.

Oscar Stuart flows together really well, but I'm getting kind of hung on both Rowan Edward and Rowan Stuart.

I don't think Oscar is overly common. I've only ever met a couple. You clearly both love it and have done for a while so how common it is shouldn't really matter.
I'm not a fan of Rowan, it makes me think of Mr Bean! (sorry!) I think Oscar is an awesome name though! I know a little one who has nn Ozzy. Sooooo cute x

Thanks for all your opinions.

I'm not sure why it being common worried me for a while, I myself have a name that's pretty unusual and yet there happened to be three of us in one class in one year at School, I guess that's just the way it works sometimes.

I'm still completely torn on both Oscar and rowan. I like them both yet neither really stands out to me as "the one" we are staying team yellow and I am beginning to hope that I am having a girl, as we are so sure of the name and it would help with the confusion!

I don't know any Oscars here, it's on my top 3 for this baby!

Oscar from where I am is in that "just right" category, it's well enough known that it's not bizarre and it suits babies and young boys born recently as it has gained in popularity in recent years, but it's not overly common, I don't actually know any in DS's nursery. So I think that's just right personally. I'm not overly keen on Rowan tbh.

My oh is Rowan so Iike it - it suits him! But I prefer it for a girl. Oscar is cute!
