I am not really worried but just wondered if this is sort of normal for a 2 yr old..

My little girl gets obsessed with things really bad. For instance every morning when I get her milk I have to give her the lid to the cup before I fill the milk then she gives it back laughing and all is well, If I don't she goes nuts.

Also when we put her shoes on we have to do it in a certain chair and if not again she goes mad and wont put them on?

I guess Im worried because I've heard this sort of behaviour can be linked to autism. she gives plenty of eye contact, likes playing with other children and is very loving alaways wanting kisses ect, but has stated having quite bad tantrums over silly little things...

I dont think she is autistic but maybe just reassurance its normal to get obsessed with certain routines?

Try not to worry too much about that - I think it's quite normal for them to want everything just how they like it! Charlie has a million little cars and Happyland people and he puts them in big rows - all the full length of the hall and living room. They all have to be nose-to-tail or he gets annoyed and all his little people have to be in a perfect line as well. He also has a shelf with plushy's on it and if I put them back in the wrong order after cleaning he tells me 'NO Mummy - Iggle Wiggle go that side' :haha: It freaked me out a bit at first but I spoke to friends and family members and they said most of their kids done stuff like this when they were younger and they soon grow out of it. I think it's fine :flow:

Thanks for that. Im sure it is normal but has been playing on my mind a little...funny little things :)

sounds normal toddler behaviour to me! Amelie also likes to hold the lid of her cup and she also likes to pick her cup. God help me if I give her the wrong one

ruby looks mega cute in her rain mac

Thanks she now hates that mac and refuses to wear it "sigh" just changed the profile pic as hate my carpet in it :)

I know! Charlie does strange little rituals, but I've stopped worrying tbh and just let him get on with it

Thats what I've tried doing but sometimes I just forget or dont have time and it can be a tad frustrating to say the least.

Our son (Sept 09) is the same. He wants to hold the lid, he specifies who should give him sth to eat, in which chair he wants us to sit etc. Cute and annoying at the same time:wacko: And I am quite sure he doesn't have autism.
Congrats on your new baby btw - we also have a 4 week old.

It's very normal for a 2 year old. I remember Aaron having loads of obsessive little quirks that had me worried for a while, but he's grown out of it.

Yup - my LO does stuff like this all the time too. He has to choose his cup, he has to get his own knife and fork... often he takes things off me solely because he wants to give it back to me.... Strange things these little people, eh?

it's good to hear that other peoples little ones are as odd as mine :)

It sounds to me as if she's just trying to control the environment around her to some extent. Sounds normal to me.

Maia is the same too - and she gives the worst tantrums if things don't go exactly as planned - flopping on the ground and banging her head on the floor and throwing things and all!

toddlers! Sigh.

maia is the same as ruby lol...love the banging the head when out in public lol..."not"

It's totally normal for toddlers to be rigid in how they want things. They are just learning they have a say in what goes on around them and that they can control how things happen. Bun has lots of little quirks and things that he has to have a certain way. I also find that if he is tired he gets more inflexible and more likely to tantrum over it!

One of the reasons autism isn't a quick diagnosis is because the majority of kids display one or more "traits" that can be linked to autism but don't have it. It's a diagnosis based on a whole series of behaviors, communication, social, physical, etc. - not just a quick checklist!
I would say your daughter sounds like a completely normal toddler to me! xx

Yeah my Tom is just like that! Esp with his cars and trains, they all get lined up in the lounge and god forbid if I try to help him!!!

He's not too picky when it comes to which cup to use and which shoes to wear, but I think it is all normal and I wouldn't worry!

It sounds normal to me. Tegan has little habits like that too
