Is this a sign of supply issues?

Hi girls,

hope you wise owls can help. The last couple of evenings have been really hard work. Cooper has always been a cluster feeder from 5ish til he goes down for the night at 10/11ish. Now, he's really wriggly on the boob, wriggly a lot whilst headbanging whilst clamping down on my nipples. It's blooming sore!

Soon as he comes off the boob, he starts squealing and crying (defo not windy). He's neither happy on nor off. It makes me think that he's hungry but not getting enough.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I know by keeping him on the boob supply will increase if necessary but my poor nips have only just stopped hurting and a few more nights like this I'm gonna be right back to square one.

I am pumping 5oz every morning to have milk ready for days/nights out I have planned. Don't know if that means anything. I would have thought that can only be good for supply?

Argh why is this never easy!!!

Thanks for any help
x

Yes! im having exactly the same problem, from the on/off thing right to the wriggling and crying when coming off.

Unfortunatley the only way i see out of it is to keep persevering with feeding to get the supply up. Im on night two of it so hopefully should see some improvement tomorrow.

Consider yourself rooted aswell :hugs:

Snap! Night 2 for us too.

Lets hope tomorrow is a better day

:hugs:

Anything i express on the day i always give to him which is about 9 oz otherwise my boobs are empty for his next feed ifykwim

4oz in the morning and 5oz at night although there is usually a bit left in each bottle.

Maybe you could try giving him a bottle of what you've expressed in the morning and see if that makes a difference ?

I tried building up a supply but as fast as i pump he drinks, i found that if i did hold back the expressed milk he would still be hungry after the following feed so my back supply is now non existant !!

I'm really keen to build up a supply in the freezer as I am out all day on the 8th july and then on a hen weekend in August. I do only pump in the morning, maybe I should try and slot in another. I do feel quite empty by the time he's done cluster feeding at night though.

Pumping even if i only get an oz to start with can only help build supply though so its got to be worth it. thanks hun

Alice usually does the cluster feeding too, but the past 2 nights have been horrible. I think it's a growth spurt. Monday night nothing would make her happy so she screamed for 2 hours until finally she had a good feed and went to sleep.
I think sometimes they like to have a fuller boob and a stronger flow of milk, but they have been cluster feeding and get angry. Sometimes it seems the only solution it to let them wait it out for the boob to fill up again. I'm sure it's more a problem of him being frustrated at the flow than a supply problem.
