Is this an uber popular name?

I have one eye on the TV and just heard the name Max. My first thought was that it's very popular (I don't like to use the word common as some people have negative vibes about it) but then actually thinking about it I couldn't think of anyone I know or on TV called it, except poor old Max from Hollyoaks.

Do you know many Max's? Is it a very popular name?

I always check on the US gov website to see where a name ranks -- based on all US births -- Max is in 104th place (in 2009)! It def increased in popularity (164th place in 2000)... but still not extremely popular by any means!

i was just coming on this thread to give her the same info for England and Wales from the office of national statistics (don't know where to find info for scotland sorry!). In 2008 max was 24th most popular name and was registered 2706 times as a first name in that year. the 2009 figures have not yet been released.

i know Max is popular from area to area but ive got family up is Scotland (read your little thingy under your avatar not a stalker honest) and none of them know any Max's.
i think it is a lovely name an i would have it but OH isnt too keen on it unfortunately. xx
