Is this just being petty?

Ive always hated taking Maisie to her dads.. even when we were together i hated it. Most of his family smoke, they always said when Maisie was down they would smoke in the kitchena nd just not to take her in there, but what i dont think they realise is they have no doors on the rooms downstairs so the smokes travelling through the house house...

When Maisie got croup i told them i was keeping her at home untill shes fully recovered and that i didnt want her being around the smoke. He wasnt really happy at first but then i think he realised it would be best so he agreed...

Well basically, i just hate her going there because i know she is around the smoke all the time. I know for a fact they smoke around Masie when im not there becaue they do it with all the other kids.

Well shes come home today and she smelt a bit like smoke.. ive put her to bed and now shes developed a cough? I kow i cant speka too soon but it sounds quite nasty...

Am i just being pathetic? I really want to say something but i think im just lowering myself and being silly if i do? I cant exactly tell them to stop smoking in their own house right?

I dont think ur being petty, Passive smoking can be just as bad than first hand smoking. Esp when she is so young and her wee lungs etc are still growing and developing. Just explain calmly ur concerns, surely they will understand where u are coming from. U are only thinking of the welfare of ur child, and if they think enough of maisie they will understand and comply with ur requests.

Just try and take a calm and adult approach to it. Sometimes its all about how u go about the situation, if u go all guns blazing they mite just ignore u, were as if u are nice and polite about it they mite take it on board abit more. She could develope asthma or something from them doing this.

If they refuse or u think they are ignoring u and continue to smoke round her, and u smell it off her, or she is coming home with a cough etc Then i would just stop them from having her until they agree that they will follow through.

I dont think it is too much to ask for to get their bums outside when they smoke.
It really isnt good to smoke inside when having kids (or animals or anyone not agreeing to be a passive smoker for that sake either). Luckily I never been a smoker so I dont have that problem and if someone made my child a passive smoker I would make them aware that's not okay!

I'm still with my OH and I hate taking LO to his house as his family smoke (OH doesn't). They say they don't smoke in the house anymore...or at least in the lounge, but it still STINKS of smoke...when I take LO there ( i don't let him go on his own yet!) I barely let him touch anything as anyone who's been there smells like stale smoke...and that's not really that bad compared to passive smoking, you think you could have a word with her dad? Tell him about her cough, and just say you'd prefer it...maybe show him some stats of passive smoking or something, he should get his family to do something for the sake of his daughter's health!

I dont think its petty at all.
Try explaining your concearns to them, and if they dont listen to you, id tell them they cant have her around their house anymore, if they want to see her they will have to come over yours, or something like that.

Smoking is one thing I will not have people doing around my baby so I personally don't think you are being petty in the slightest.

I am going to come down so hard on FOB if he has LO and he/she or their things come back smelling of smoke. I remember once I watched his dad sat with a fag hanging out of his mouth whilst feeding his grandaughter who was sat in a high chair right in front of him.....the thought of him doing that with my LO makes me mad!!!

OMG - I would have snatched the fag out of his hand and flushed it!!! I used to smoke and don't have a problem with people hanging around outdoors smoking but when you see them smoking over their kids in buggies or god forbid while feeding them???? Really horrible and should be taken away and slapped soundly for it!!!
