Is this selfish?

Hi all!

We just found out 2 weeks ago that I'm having a little girl! The only girl's name we ever really considered was Harmony. I've loved that name since I was younger, and my name is Melody so I feel like it links us together. When I started telling people her name they all say "that's a cute name, works with your name but has nothing to do with David (my husband)" and "I guess David is left out of the picture, huh?". They make me feel like I'm being selfish for picking a name similar to mine. I want to just ignore them, but I get those comments from almost everyone. Do you think I'm being selfish for naming her this?

Oh! And I have no ideas for a middle name! I have a long last name, so the middle needs to be short. I like Harmony Rose and Harmony Lynn. Can't think of anything else. Any ideas? =]

i dont think your being selfish atall! its a lovely name and the thought of it being so similar to yours never even entered my mind!

harmony-rose is really nice, what about harmony-Grace? or does that go together abit too much? if u get what i mean lol x

Do you trust him enough to pick the middle name? But as the others have said she will have his surname but it won't be hers forever if she gets married and changes it.

i don't think you're being selfish atall. does your OH like this name aswell? if he doesn't feel left out than that's all that matters, my son's name has nothing to do with OH part from the middle name, but that was not his original middle name if that makes sense more of a spur of the moment thing lol x

I agree that he's very much included if she has his last name. And I definitely wouldn't feel selfish if he approves of the name. It's really comes down to being just a decision between the two of you.

You're not being selfish! What do they want you to call her - Davida? Seriously, people I swear - but as mentioned before, could he pick out the middle name? Or maybe use a first or middle name of one of his female relatives?

I have a harmony in my class and in the first few weeks constantly called her Melody!! hee hee. I grew up with a melody so!!
I think it's a lovely name hun! And we only have one Harmony in the whole school! I dont think its selfish at all! Let OH choose next bub's name!! x

Some people just think their opinions are far too important....doesn't sound like your husband has a problem with it, and how could you possibly link all three names anyway?! Nope, not being selfish, I think it would be lovely

Don't listen to what others say, they're probably just jealous you chose a really cute name for your LO! I can't think of any middle names to go with Harmony though! But it's a lovely first name.

I love that your names would be linked like that - my mum is Joyce and my sister's middle name is Joy - think it's really special.

If he's ok with it tell everyone else to get lost!

Thank you all for your lovely comments!! I feel so much better now! I guess I just shouldn't let other people get to me! Plus some of you made a good point about her having my Hubby's last name. I think we're sharing her evenly! haha

Still having a hard time finding that perfect middle name, but I'll write down all your suggestions!

I did & the sisters were Harmony & Melody!
I always thought i would call my child those names! lol

If you did want a link with OH name then you could try a middle name beginning with D:
Harmony Dawn
Harmony Dee

Can't actually think of any others with one syllable, but you get my drift...

Having said that, I think other posters are right - he gets to give her his last name, which is a HUGE link to him!

I love Harmony Rose....how about Harmony Grace or Harmony Jane as alternatives.
