Yesterday I took my dogs for a walk and about two hours later I could barely walk. My pubic region was in agony and last night turning over was really unbelievably painful (god help me in labour). I can wander round the shops for ages and I feel fine but something about walking my dogs sends my pelvis nuts. The only reason I think it might be SPD is because my pubic bone aches and this is what google points me to. I'd have thought SPD symptoms would occur a hell of a lot more often....

I work from home by the way so actually I don't actually walk much during the hours (if at all) of 7am-6pm so perhaps my body is protesting?

Any ideas?

I have been suffering with presumed SPD for a few weeks now. I too noticed it initially whilst taking the dogs out for long walks and then being in pain at the end of the walks and for the rest of the day.

Turning over in bed and getting out of bed feels like my pelvis is going to split in two. Complete agony!!

Earlier today I was hobbling like an old lady but I have just had a bath which seems to have eased it a lot at the moment.

My mw suggested I get an attractive hip girdle and go to antenatal swim sessions which I am going to try and then when I go back at 34 weeks if it is still painful she will refer me to a physio.

x
PS same day as me - congrats on 32 weeks!

I have SPD and your symptoms sound very familiar.

Call your midwife for some advice but in the meantime...

-dont stand on one leg (sit down to get dressed)
- try to keep your knees together (no crossing your legs and do the 'ladylike' pose for getting out of cars etc)
- sit where possible
- sleep with a pillow between your knees

There are loads more tips but cant remember them all. :) Hope you feel better soon.

theres a spd thread in babyclub hun if you head over theres lots of useful advice there

I should of taken a bath! Typical. Was going to call my GP in the morning but should I go straight to my midwife?

I can't go on like this for another 2 months. I just want to cry.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep everything in mind and take a look at the thread in pregnancy club.

Try contacting the antenatal physio at the hospital directly hun, it cuts out all the messing about with midwives/doctors referring you. By the time they dictate letter, get it typed, sent, and is then reviewed you might already have been able to see physio.

I self referred to physio but I'm in Scotland, not sure if its different where you are.

I called the midwife unit this morning, explained the situation, she said is certainly sounded like SPD, to take some paracetamol, keep my knees together and don't stretch that area. I could get a referral if I make an appointment with my GP to get a brace but she said it should settle down within a day or so so I'll see how that goes first, I'll give it one more day then make an appointment with the GP. Happy days.
