Well, after months and months of anticipation, our little princess came out.
July 16, 2013 (Grandpa's bday) 7lbs 15oz 20.5 in long. Perfect and beautiful! She was sooo pink when she came out! She poops and pees and does all the stuff babies should do.
My birth story is as follows:
Sunday we went in to be induced. They tried a cervical ripener which got contractions going within an hour. They were not painful, but about 1-2 mins apart. We kept waiting and waiting for them to get painful and things to progress, but I just stayed at 2-3 cm dilated and about 60% effaced. Baby was posterior, so she wasn't cooperating.
They finally sent me home at about 11:30 PM. I had painful contractions and back labor til about 4 PM and then fell asleep.
We went back in to be induced again on Tuesday since he had another induction scheduled for Monday. Thankfully, the doc said we weren't leaving without a baby this time. I was still only about 2 cm dilated and 50-60% effaced. Because baby was still posterior, she wasn't staying engaged well.
Well, They started me on a potosin drip at 10AM. Contractions started, but were not painful for a little while. I was also on anitbiotics for group b strep.
The contractions started to be painful at about 2PM. My husband had to rub my back with lotion and apply counter pressure. I had all back labor. SO PAINFUL! I couldn't even feel the contractions because of the back labor. I ended up having contractions about 1 minute apart from 2PM til 9:30 PM. My husband rubbed my back for the entire time....what a trooper! I was in and out of the tub, alternating lying on either side and on all fours. We were trying to get the baby into antierior position. She didn't flip until I was fully effaced and dilated! They had to wait until then to manually flip her, but she flipped at the last second. By then, though, I had had so much back labor that I couldn't stop my muscles from tensing up against the contractions. The doc said I needed to start pushing...my body even started to do it involunarily, but it just wouldn't happen! My muscles kept tensing up. Then suddenly, but contractions started coming 4-6 minutes apart. It was terrible, because I wasn't ready for them then. I found myself falling asleep between contractions. When they came, I couldn't push.
Well, the doc said you either need to push through the pain and not tense up, or you can try a spinal. I tried to push with a few more contractions, but couldn't do it. Finally, I asked for the spinal. It was only a few minutes and the anesthetist was there. He was awesome and had it done in no time. It worked instantly. I didn't know I could have pain meds at this point. I had been past the point of the epidural, obviously, but the spinal was way better. I didn't have to have a catheter, just a shot in the back.
Anyways, my back finally had relief, Praise God! I just kept thinking, I will never take for granted feeling normal again. haha. Anyways, my contractions slowed way down. They gave me a little rest (not that I felt I needed it anymore since I felt no pain) but then started me on a potosin drip again to get my contractions coming faster.
When it came to pushing, it was really wierd to push without feeling, but the doc said I was doing it really well considering. He put is finger in and told me to push it out and said I was pushing properly. So whenever we saw a contraction coming, I just pushed for 8-10 seconds. In about an hour, out popped the head and it all just popped out really fast!
There she was! Alive and pink and crying!!! We were so relieved! My husband said "it's a boy!" while the doctor cleaned off the face and the nurse checked and said, "no it's a girl!" haha!!! It was so cute! My Husband was SO excited! He wanted a girl sooo much! He's such an adoring daddy now, I coudn't ask for a better dad for my little princess. He ended up changing almost all of her diapers in the hospital--and she's a good pooper! He doesn't mind at all!
I tore some, but the doc said it was only 2nd degree and wasn't bad. I am healing up nicely.
Night feedings are pretty trying, but last night I napped before bedtime and she let me sleep a little more between feedings, so it's getting better already.
Anyways, that's my story! Hang in there ladies! It's such a wonderful thing to have this little lady out! It took a lot of prayer and pain, but she's out and she can't go back in! Haha
