Just rung Sainsburys,as I needed to speak to Dean to tell him his new employers have no problem with him starting after the 4 weeks(!!) notice Sainsburys want, despite him only having worked for them for 9 weeks...anywho.got through to some snotty moo,who said he isn't allowed to take personal calls at work...Its was to do with his work!and he needed to inform them today so he could change his notice letter which they asked to be changed!!!FFS!
Its a good job I'm not heavily pregnant and in labour isnt it!Dozy t**ts that they are, what would they make me do then!!!
xxx

i think in that case they would have to let him take a personal call they wouldnt just leave someone in labour x

Maybe I should call back and do some heavy breathing and screaming down the phone?

Normally it wouldnt have bothered me,but it was Info they said he had to find out today for his last day to be 4 weeks from now.
xx

yer that should get him to the phone lol i always thought 4 weeks was a bit much i mean the way jobs are these days they could fill his old job within days x

exactly......i even said said to them '4 weeks was a bit much...'normal' supermarets only ask for 1 week' xx

TBH I don't see the problem

He is at work and technically no it is not important.

When I worked in Morrisons there would have been no way that they would have allowed my OH to phone up and tell me I needed to phone up about another job.

What you could do is leave a message asking him to phone you on his break

No hun...Sainsburys ASKED for this info....he has had the one 20 min break they give him,and he needs to hand his notice in today.
She said she would pass the message on but who knows if she will.
Because of their stupid notice period...he washes up in cafe,so not exactly rocket science..he could have lost a better paid job.x

Oh right sorry I didn't realise that :dohh:

I can't even remember how much notice I had to give I just sent my notice in and didn't turn up ever again  Supermarkets treat their staff like shit its ridiculous! Especially if you are in any of the little 'cliques'

Hope you get it sorted hun x

When I worked at Tesco I had to give a week...they said if he doesnt work the 4 weeks he loses his holiday pay!!xx

How many weeks holiday has he taken already? He won't have accrued much in 9 weeks x

He hasn't taken any so far,but they said they will let him know how much has has earnt so they can pay it to him,he said if its something silly like a few hours he isnt gonna bother with the 4 weeks, just give them 1 week.xx

I'm suprised he gets holiday pay most places don't let you have any holiday till you have been there 12 weeks. I would have just quit given a weeks notice and started at the other place especially if the other job is more money, naughty i know.

I don't think he'll have accured much tbh. Maybe a few days at the most so might be just better saying sod them  x

Will ring him at 5 when he finishes to see what the gods that are the HR department have said..lol.xx

yep,he got one when he started.turns out they will take 2 weeks notice :) xx

I'm quite surprised they said he has to give 4 weeks notice. The legal requirement is 1 week only. And just because it says 2 weeks in his contract doesn't mean it would stand up in court - anybody can put whatever they like into a contract but it can be challenged if it is unfair terms.
I would give them 1 weeks notice and if they say they won't pay any holiday pay owed I would mention it is illegal for an employer to keep it - unlawful deductions.
Good luck with it all and well done to your OH on getting a job and getting out of there :)

Thanks hun...he spoke to someone with brains in the HR department and they said they CAN withhold his holiday money, but they rarely do-only if someone walks out-the woman said they can't force people to stay so she doesnt seem the point in witholding holiday.
The job was only ever a stop gap until something better came along..as he was on JSA for so long and had to take the first job he was offered.xx
