It's the FIRST first time today. Nervous!!!

Hi,

My partner and I have been waiting to start trying for almost a year now. Today is our first month and tonight is our very first insemination. I'm so happy that we are finally at this point and although I'm a little nervous, it's hard to be optimistic but not too hopeful. I'm trying.

We are using fresh semen from a known donor but I've never even had unprotected sex with a man so the whole insemination just seems really foreign to me. I'm just feeling a lot right now including curiosity as to what dealing with "that stuff" inside me is going to feel like.

Any wise words from those of you who have been at it for a bit? I'm trying to relax and keep calm today but the excitement of this being our first time is just a bit overwhelming.

Hello!

What an exciting day for you! We're not using a donor, but I would assume a lot of the same rules apply. Try to relax, focus on your partner, and don't think about "that stuff" if it creeps you out I also try to keep my bum elevated on a pillow for as long as I can stand...anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes.

Hi. Just wanted to wish you luck! I would like to suggest trying Instead Softcups. They will help to keep the sperm inside of your body and closer to your cervix. They can be found in CVS, which is where I purchased them and Pre-seed.

I'm in a straight relationship (this time ), but we are also using fresh donor sperm.
Sometimes we use a speculum, sometimes not. Like all the sites will tell you, we slowly put the semen on and around the cervix, and then I'll insert an Instead cup to hold it all in (or as much as possible). Since it's suggested, I then use a vibrator externally to try to reach orgasm, as that causes the cervix to spasm, dipping into the pool of semen and sucking it up where it belongs. I lay with my hips elevated for at least twenty minutes, and keep the Instead cup in as long as possible, up to 12 hours.
Just be very careful if passing stool while the cup is inside...the muscles will push the cup out of place. I actually use my fingers to hold the rim of the cup in place if that becomes a problem.

Good luck! It's...quite an experience. In two weeks' time we'll be getting our fourth donation. So I'm getting to be a veteran at this.

Thank you for all the replies. I kept checking this yesterday and feeling a bit that no one was replying. Things did go very well. I had the instead softcups at home but didn't try using them last night. We are trying again tonight so maybe I will this go round. Thank you for the suggestion about the assisted conception threads!

Thank you for all of the advice! You are getting to be a pro at this! I was a bit nervous but I think I'll feel much less stressed about it tonight. It was kind of difficult to orgasm but we made it work then I stayed in bed with my hips elevated for about a half hour. I'm pretty sure I'm LH surging right now (Doing an OPK stick in a few hours) so last night was kind of early insurance. Luckily our donor lives nearby and we've planned to try five times this cycle. I'm hopeful because it's SO much more than what my other friends using AI have been able to do.

I'll definitely try a softcup tonight. I've used them before for periods and I don't think they are very comfortable but this is a bit of a better reason to endure it. We'll probably progress to using a speculum or preseed later on if necessary. We're trying to keep it simple to begin with.

Thanks everyone! I did check out the assisted conception threads and have started some discussion there. We have two tries down now and three more to go this cycle and I feel pretty good about it so far. Thanks for all the babydust and well wishes!
