We tried an IUI for the first time in March. Got a :bfn: today. I thought I would be more upset but I wasn't. It felt more like I got the answer I thought I would. I think I've resigned myself to not having children but feel like I need to try again for the hubby. I just want to give up.

Awww teako22, no need to give up yet:flower: Your chances of a BFP for each IUI are between 15-20% so it's about the same as most couples during the first few months of TTCing naturally. The clinic I'm at say that the 1st IUI rarely gives a BFP (when it does happen, they're shocked), it mostly happens between the 2nd and 4th try with most being on the 3rd and 4th try.

I'm currently going to be doing my 4th IUI which is scheduled for Monday.

You could also consider trying IVF. If I reach my 6th IUI and it doesn't work we'll be moving on to IVF (already on the waiting list). I've heard of plenty of people where IUI didn't Work (where they'd done as many as 6 or more IUIs) and they first got their BFP with IVF.

I had the same cry realization last week with my hubby. I feel like it is never ever going to happen, and we are just kidding ourselves. So you are not alone hun. So what feels right for you, and if you are not ready to give up then don't. But if you need a mental break, take it. Take as long as you need, this is an awful experience and no one person reacts the same.

Big hugs.

I always think about giving up until I start asking myself 10 years down the road will I regret not trying everything....then I jump back on the wagon. But everyone is different. Taking just 1 month off is sometimes refreshing.

We've been trying 7 years and nothing. They can't even tell us why. We have unexplained infertility. How can you fix or find a way around nothing. I will keep trying IUI at least three more times and then I don't know. I don't think we can afford IVF. I do have frozen eggs from a program for cancer patients but have been told it will cost 5-10 thousand to do the rest.

I'm so sorry for what you've been going through. I can't imagine going through this for 7 years :-(

If you feel that you need a break, you should give yourself that. Then you can decide if and when you want to take it up again. I feel like I've been in a similar situation lately and have been enjoying our break and using it to re-set emotionally and physically.

sending you lots of love and positive thoughts for whatever you decide to do.

I got a bfn on my first IUI also, had a MC on my second and third one. After I got a BFN on my fourth DH and I had a serious talk about giving up, adopting, and IVF. A couple days later I got my BFP and this one is sticking.

I didn't take progesterone on the cycle that I got a BFN and took it on each one I got a BFP. I didn't take aspirin on my cycles with BFP and MC and I took aspirin on the last one that I got a BFP and the lo is sticking. I am convinces I can only get PG with IUI, progesterone and aspirin. You may want to look into that also.
