Hi everyone,

My DH and I have been TTC # 2 for 20 months with no luck whatsoever. His first SA (done in April) showed he had 0% normal morphology. His motility was 44% and although we don't know the actual count the Dr said it was good. He just had his 2nd SA and the Dr immediately called for him to come in for an appt to go over the results. We are both fairly convinced it's probably not great so I am trying to do as much research as possible on any options we might have so we are armed with questions for our appointment!

I had a look on a local fertility clinic site about IUI and it said it works best if the sperm is "suboptimal". So I guess I am just looking to hear from any of you that have had IUI with MFI. Any advice would be greatly appreciated or any information you have ie. do you know what would be considered "suboptimal".

Thank you all

my DH also has low morphology and motility, but with a good count. He saw a urologist who found a varicocele, that was causing the morphology and motility. This can be repaired with surgery. Maybe this could be your DH cause? We opted for IUI instead of varicocele surgery because his counts were ok and the surgery was expensive for us. THe varicocele is diagnosed easily with a scrotal US.

Thanks for replying sarlar. Turns out his count is actually really low as well - 4 million. Chances are it's probably always been like that. The Dr did a check and everything felt/looked good but he is being referred to a Urologist for a 2nd opinion. Not sure if anything will show up but at least we're doing something!

Good luck with everything :hugs:

My Dh has low morphology, motility, count...the works. We were told we have a 2% chance conceiving with IUI, but we've decided to try it anyway. With medication it rises to 15% I think. Our chances are better with IVF 50%. We've been trying for 3 1/2yrs. We're riding with the risk.

Hope it all works out for you!

Sorry, I forgot to add suboptimal is usually slightly below average count and motility numbers. Usually they consider poor morph to indicate abnormal sperm. However, it really depends on the scale they use. I say ask the doc to be very specific about suboptimal and all your options.
