My fiancee and I have been living together for 3 years. It was until October 2013 that we decided to start trying to conceive. I got off the pill and have had no luck at all. When is it a good time to go to the doctor. My boyfriend has three kids from a previous relationship which makes me wonder whether it's me with the problem. I'm only 21! Please help.

When I first trying to conceive I went to visted my doctors they told me to wait a year, (I was 20 at the time).

But dont let it bring you down. Just because you boyfriend has had children from a previous relationships dose not mean your the problem. No one is ever the problem, it's just set back. You get there! Some people just take longer to get pregnant the others.

But there is no harm popping along to the doctors to set your mind at ease.

I would definitely go see a doctor now. A year is what they say you should wait before seeing a doctor. As the previous poster said, it could be your partner and not you after all. I think secondary infertility is where someone has kids previously, but now can't (correct me if I am wrong).

A few extra questions, have you been temping? Ar your cycles regular? Do you use opks etc?

DH and I are 26. I went to the doctor after no AF for a couple of months and we have been dealing with a fertility specialist since July. I have pcos but am otherwise very fertile. And DH has low sperm count. So we have problems on both side...

Good luck and let us know how you get on x

No I haven't been temping. My periods were very irregular as a teenager though. I don't use opks but I want to.

I know it's hard but try not to worry too much. Its extremely common for many people to take a year plus. Im sure I read somewhere around 80% take over 10 months. Also if you were on the pill a long time it can take quite a while for your body to return to normality. If I were you I'd go to the docs now just for your piece of mind as I t won't help you being stressed. I'd tell them you've been trying 18 months just to get the ball rolling. Also I really belive taking conception vitamins helps 100%

I've been trying for a year myself although I'm older than you (I'm 35). Sounds like we started TTC around the same time.

I think it'd be a good idea for you to go to your GP and tell them you've been trying for a year and want to get both you and him checked out. That way if there is a problem, you can consider assisted conception or try for a bit longer, depending on if there are any issues.

I think taking prenatals/conception vitamins is a good idea, I started taking them 2 months before I started TTCing yet still not pregnant. But even vitamins can't help if there are problems on either side or if you just have unexplained infertility.

I wish you luck and hope you soon see your BFP :dust:
