So my big day is coming up! November 7! I have my first FS appt after six failed clomid cycles. I was just wondering what does IVF and IUI really consist of? How many times a day do you do shots and on what cd's? I have read up and think I get the outline of it but was wanting to know from someone who actually did it. Do you do ultrasounds during your cycle? Any info is appreciated. And are there other procedures besides those two?

There is a big difference between the two.

You can do IUI with clomid/femara or with injectables.

I have done several IUI clomid/femara cycles. You have several scans per month. One as a baseline from cd1-cd3, then again to check for follicles around cd12. Then you go back until they look mature. One trigger shot whenever the follies look to be the right size, then 1-2 IUIs in the office a few days after the trigger.
It is more involved with injectable IUI thought. I have not done this so I am unsure how many more appointments are required.

And IVF is even more involved. You will probably take a class to learn the process.

It looks like femera and IUI is my first line of action. I hope to start by the end of the year. Anyone know what the success of this combo looks like?

Hiya, we are going in for IUI tomorrow and I had clomid with one trigger shot (I think it was called a hsg) to make the follicle release the egg. Fortunately i didn't need the injections but they were prescribed orignally to help produce sufficient follicles.

At our clinic the IUI chances are 10% and i think this is pretty standard. I asked why it was so low & the nurse told me it was because a lot of couples recommended for ivf try iui first so it brings the success rate down.

good luck xx

Wow! That does sound low. :( That's discouraging! I really hope IUI helps us because I don't know if we could afford ivf.

Fingers crossed it does help! It's much more affordable than ivf.

Well my 1st go is done today so i can only hope and pray it works for us, it's now in the hands of fate! If it does i will let you know ...

xx

im in the same situation as you just finished 6 months of clomid next step is iui have a info. session at the fs in a couple of weeks. i'm dreading it

I was told 15-20% success rate. This rate was quoted to me at the age of 24, and again at 34.
I would guess that each couple would have a different rate? Not sure.
It would seem like each couple would have different circumstances that would affect chances of conception.

Good luck.

I was told about 20% chance of success with IUI. It doesn't hardly seem fair to have to go through taking medications and having the IUI procedure and you still only have a 20% chance of success.
