I've now been TTC number 2 for 26 months. Not a sniff of a BFP in that time. My doctor has done one blood test which shows I am (or was) ovulating, so that was it.

My doctor suspects PCOS, but won't test me until I lose weight.. but then said if I do have PCOS, losing weight will be harder :dohh:

I'm now on day 41 of my cycle, 6 days late. I haven't tested because I just know it'll be negative, I can't do it again

I only have 2 very close friends, both of them are pregnant now. One of them didn't even want another child and the other has been with her OH for less time then I've been trying!

Being surrounded by pregnant people is so hard. How do you drag yourself through it?

It took 6 months to conceive my first, that felt like a lifetime! I wasn't prepared for this  Not expecting replies, I just have no one to speak to

I'm sorry! Maybe push you doctor to do more testing or switch doctors all together to someone who will investigate further for you!

I agree that you need to ask around and find another doctor. A doc who truly understands how PCOS works wouldn't tell you to lose weight first. Even if it wasn't
PCOS, what kind of doctor refuses to treat someone because they are overweight???
That just isn't right!

I would find another doctor if you can...I had a doctor do this to me..said my thyroid was the cause of my missed periods...turns out I have PCOS...my new doctor tested me for that and other things the very day I met him...so I would definitely go to another doctor. Good luck :)

I went to my doc after 8 mnths ttc and she sent me to a fertility clinic, after doing my thyroid, progesterone estrogen & fsh bloods. I'm not in the UK but it sounds like you either need to be more aggressive with your doc or find another doc who'll spend some effort on you. A referral to a specialist would be great! I hope you get some answers soon.

Look at it like this....yes, you are his patient, BUT you are paying him for a service. He can give you recommendations, but in the end, you are paying him so he should respect your wishes and run the tests you want and find the answers that you need. If you or your insurance are paying for them, then he really doesn't have the right to refuse to do it.

I know you don't want to in case it says negative but please test you may get a positive I'll have my fingers and toes crossed 4 u :-) keep ur chin up

I agree with everyone else: You need a new doctor ASAP! One with a brain! He/she should absolutely be doing PCOS testing, ESPECIALLY if you are overweight. I'm sorry to say it, and pardon my language, but your doctor sounds like an ass. Many women who have PCOS absolutely CAN'T lose weight without starving themselves unless they are taking something to regulate their insulin levels. If your doctor told you to lose weight first, then he/she is an uneducated twit.Ooooo that makes me angry!

I just got diagnosed with PCOS with many symptoms, including insulin resistance, which is probably why I have suffered from obesity off and on since I hit puberty. I went from 120lbs at 12 years old to 215lbs at 14 years old. At this point, I'm 5'4'' and 230lbs, having yo-yo'd my entire life. My RE told me he is glad they found out about the PCOS induced insulin resistance because now I can get put on Metformin and that should help me to lose weight. He said I might not have to do anything special to lose weight besides take Metformin and reduce my carb intake and my gluten intake, since those are areas PCOS ladies have issues with. So hopefully the weight will just come off!

Insulin resistance can cause the body to store glucose as fat instead of using it for energy. So even if you eat the "right" amount of food, you can end up starving and gaining weight at the same time. You can feel weak and fatigued all the time because you're not able to utilize the food you're eating. Of course, PCOS can cause all sorts of different hormone imbalances, too. And some of them can really take their toll of your body. For me, PCOS is also giving me borderline high cholesterol (tied to insulin resistance), depression, PMDD, tons of cysts on my ovaries, and anovulation.

At 2+ years of trying, it really sounds like you need to switch to a caring, intelligent RE and get some real testing done. And if ANYONE ever says you're too overweight to get medical care, get out of there as fast as you can and find someone else. Discrimination is absolutely NOT okay. No matter what. I don't think your current doctor deserves to have you as a patient.
