I just found out 2 days ago I have PCOS :growlmad: It's weird because I always had regular periods and do not have any of the other symptoms. However, after 8 months of trying to conceive I knew something was wrong. My sonogram looked good, however my AMH level was 10 and therefore the doctor told me I had PCOS. She gave me the option of clomid or letrozole. Which do some of you suggest? She also told me to do it with iui but I rather wait and try the meds alone. Any success stories out there? Feeling pretty bummed.

Don't be too disappointed. I was diagnosed when I was about 13. I used femara (letrozole) and conceived that first cycle using only two inseminations with my donor. Sadly that pregnancy ended, but I'm hopeful to conceive again and will be using the femara again next cycle.

I was dx in 2009 I tried Clomid the cycle before conceiving my DD it def kicked my ovaries into gear this time around I'm going with femara (Letrozole) heard there less side effects and it works betterin women with pcos.

I know of a natural supplement called FertilAid that is supposed to be golden for women with PCOS! Check out fairhavenhealth.com and read reviews and all that! I have taken it for months to help with other issues and it was perfect!

Hi!
I have PCOS, diagnosed when I was 19, and I take Clomid. I am on 100mg because I don't ovulate on 50mg. This time around I have ovulated every month on time. However, I have major side effects. I have heard that loads of PCOS women are Clomid resistant. I was in 2012 but for some reason am not now.

Some women are fine with Clomid but most have some side effects in varying degrees. I am doing 3 IUI's with Clomid and if they fail I will try Letrozole to hopefully lessen my side effects.

Hope this helped a little. As far as I know the success rates are pretty similar for both. Neither is really more effective, but PCOS makes everything a little more complicated.

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS as well. I've never taken clomid. My RE prescribed femara (letrozole) - he prefers it because it has way less side effects than clomid (I have had no side effects except a tiny headache that went away with ibuprofen), and it's totally out of your system before the baby implants... clomid can stay in your system for a while. I'm 9 DPO, but I'm not going to test until 14 DPO because I did a trigger shot, and I don't want to get a false positive.

Fiore143, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hopefully, it will provide you with some answers and that the treatment will be effective. I was just wondering, after how many months did you get testing and did you go through your regular doctor? I'm on my 7 month of trying and I know since I'm under 35 I'm supposed to wait until a year of trying. I would really love to get testing done sooner, so just wondering. Thanks!

Hello HopePeaceJoy,

I am also under 35 but after 7 months of trying I made an appointment with a specialist and told them I was trying for longer than I was. i felt like something was wrong because everyone around me was getting pregnant the first try. She sent me for an HSG test and can you believe the same week I found out I had PCOS and she was going to put me on meds and suggested IUI I found out I was pregnant that weekend!!! I have an obgyn appointment tomorrow and just hope everything looks good!

Fiord, congrats! So you were able to get pregnant then without any meds? What do you think made the difference this month? I'm on month 7, hoping this is my month!!

Unfortunately I miscarried 2 weeks ago and had to have a D & C. I'm soo upset. It took so long to get pregnant and I finally was and then miscarried. I was able to hear the heartbeat and everything and then on my next appointment there was no more heartbeat and the baby stopped growing =(

Anyone have success stories? I'm worried about miscarrying again =(
Was thinking to go on letrozole and maybe do accupuncture? Any thoughts?

PeaceJoyHope,

I was able to get pregnant without being on any meds. I think the difference that month was I had a HSG test done 2 weeks before that and many people get pregnant right after that. I also wonder if maybe I was on meds I wouldn't have miscarried =( Any luck with you yet?

VillageVoice,

I also miscarried, I wonder if it has anything to do with PCOS. I read somewhere that women with PCOS have a 45-50% chance of miscarrying. I don't know how true that is. I know other people with PCOS who have gotten pregnant and not miscarried. Hope we can be one of them.

PCOS increases your chances of miscarriage because of the hormone fluctuations. Loads of women miscarry, some multiple times. A lot of doctors put women on Progesterone supplements during the first trimester to ensure good uterine lining.

I have PCOS, am taking Clomid and my mom had 6 miscarriages before having me prematurely. When I get pregnant I have to be closely monitored because I have such a high risk for miscarriage.

Fiore did they check your lining? If it was too thin, that would explain the miscarriage. Also, fertility treatments like Clomid and Femara also have a chance to increase miscarriage risk. I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I really hope this next BFP will stick. :hugs:
