Just had my baby at 34 weeks due to PPROM - My Story

I was sitting down for dinner and felt a pop inside of me, it was very strange and about 10 seconds later, my water gushed like a waterfall down to my ankles. They say when your water breaks it usually doesn't happen like that but it happened to me. I had PPROM (Pre-term Premature Rupture of Membranes) which occurs in less than 3% of pregnancies. So my water broke, but I was not in labor, no contractions at all. I just wish I knew why my water broke (and I haven't even had sex in months so that's not it either). Sometimes if there is an infection, trauma, or multiples this can happen and I didn't have any of them. Although in my 30th week they found I was 1cm and 50% but didn't seem concerned about that at all.

So I rushed to the hospital and my hospital has a policy where if you are 34 weeks or more they do not stop labor but before 34 weeks they can try and stop labor. So I was 33 weeks and 6 days and they were contemplating on what to do - I wasn't in labor so they were deciding whether to give me steroids for baby's lungs and antibiotics to prevent infection and I would stay in the hospital until I did go into labor or induce me, so since I was literally hours away from 34 weeks they gave me pitocin to start labor and I had the baby the next day. Baby was measuring 95th+ in ultrasounds and she came out weighing 5lbs 8oz, the doctors said that was a great weight for only 34 weeks. I got to hold her for a few seconds then the team of doctors checked her out (since she was early) and she was whimpering and breathing on her own and then I got to hold her for 5 minutes until they took her down to the NICU. She is now 3 days old and in an incubator, was on antibiotics to prevent an infection but off them now and basically they are just monitoring her and getting her to eat well, she started off slow but is doing better. She's had 1 apnea and a couple of DSAT's where her oxygen level went low and once they used an oxygen mask and her levels went back to normal quickly.

I've been trying to pump but didn't even get a drop at first, now I'm getting a little bit of colostrum and put it in a syringe and gave it to baby. She developed jaundice as most preemies do and is under the blue lights. I hope she comes home soon and is 100% healthy. Just wanted to share my story. And if anyone knows of any online support groups for moms of NICU or preemie babies, please let me know. I'd love to find one and I'm a single mommy too.
