just had the police at our door!!

Was just drifting off to sleep when I heard our door being knocked. Ignored it to start with, cos I thought it was just kids messing around. But then it started getting louder, so I looked out our window, which is over the front door, and saw 2 police cars, and an officer at the door. Went down to open it, and he explained he thought there was someone in our garden! So he came through the house to have a look, followed by someone in plain clothes. He looked in our shed, and there was someone in there!! He tried closing the door to keep him inside while calling for back-up, while my housemate ran to the front door to let more officers in. The man then climbed onto our flat roof, which worried me, as our bathroom window was open, and LO was asleep upstairs! So I ran up to close it, and saw plain clothes police climbing over our fence!!
Then they started telling the bloke he had two minutes to come down, otherwise they were gonna bring the dogs in!! Then they thought there was someone in next doors shed too, so they had to climb over and check.
The man was obviously known to them, because the were calling him by his name. He eventually came down from our roof, and they hand cuffed him, but they then had to bring him through our house!!! So I cleared all LOs toys and pram out the way to make a path, as he didn'tseem

Feeling a bit better about it, still really want to know what it was all about though!
Doesn't help that I was talking to MIL about it, and she said "Oh, well as they were mainly plain clothes police, it must have been something quite serious! Maybe he'd escaped from Cardiff prison!!" Helpful of her!!
Do you think if I phoned our local station they would tell me?
Am worried now that they had to bring the man through our house, so he's seen all our possessions! What if he decides we're worth robbing??

They won't tell you- it isn't really anything to do with you, they just used your garden to hide in. Chances are they were chasing him and they realized he had somehow got into your garden to hide.

I suppose there is no harm in contacting the non emergency number and asking though but don't expect to get very far. All I can suggest re a possibility of being burgled- just ensure your house is secure and if you have an alarm make sure you set it. I set it for the whole house overnight- OK it goes off first thing sometimes but my neighbors know what time I get up and it only ever rings for a couple of seconds. Some alarms you can use it to just set for parts of the house- but if you have a flat roof that is probably the way a burglar is going to use to try and get in.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it though- you could get hit by a bus tomorrow for all you know.
