Hi Girls I am currently on my 2nd round of Clomid and this month had some really nice folicles at CD 14. Two were 23 mm and one at 16. Unfortnately I had a horrible post colital testing....meaning my CM was non existant and also all the sperm were dead (this was only 3 hours after we BD) also my lining was only at 6.9. Both of these side effect ( hostile CM and thin lining) is said to be a side effect of the Clomid.

So dr wants me to move on to injectables. Ganirelix, Follistm, and Ovidrel. Said with injectibles you generally get great CM and the lining should be nice and thick.

So far FS knows that my hubby has not agreed to an IUI yet. But the FS thinks we should move to the injectiables anyway...with just timed intercourse... anyone else go this route.

I can tell ya my CD14 estridol test was GREAT... my value was over 1000 ... Dr said definately with this high of a value my lining SHOULD have been thick already...and he is definately blaming the 6.9 thin lining I had on the Clomid.... not so sure I would blame my lack of CM on the Clomid though.because even when I was not on Clomid I pretty much think my CM has always been non existant... So I am not exactly confident that moving to injectiables will help it at all to be honest, and what happens this next cycle if I start injectiables and do another CD14 post colital test and my CM is bad again... (that is perfect reason for IUI) but hubby hasnt committed to doing an IUI... then is it a waste for me to even spend the time and money to do a series of injectiables... oh gosh I dont know...

Hmm~ I haven't been through this... I'm done with my first round of Clomid and waiting to do an IUI. It is HIGHLY recommended having a IUI in conjunction with Clomid exactly for the reason that you state.. and if you normally don't have much CM- I would encourage it even more so~ even WITH injectables. I mean- you want to do whatever you can to increase your odds so I would push for that. I know we are :sex: EVERY day until we get the IUI and then after .. so doing ALL of that together to help give us the best possible chance, you know?

Also, have you tried guaifenesin to help with cm???

Hi Holly... thanks for your response... yes I have been taking mucinex for the last 5 cycles... as I have never spotted any CM. I did mention this to my doc that even before the Clomid I hadnt ever noticed any... he didnt seem too concerned said I could very well have had it, it just wasnt visible to me... that only an actual exam would tell for sure.

Hubby just hasnt committed to IUI yet... I am calling the FS office today, to let them know I will consider the injectables, and see if they are covered by my insurance... if not that will be $1000, and of course on the injectables I have to get 2-3 U/S and lots of blood work... apparently this is all covered by my insurance (but if I move on to IUI) THEN my insurance will NOT cover any U/S or blood work any more and definately not the drugs either so that would definately be $1000 for the drugs, then another $1000 for the U/S blodd work and IUI... so we then are looking at a $2000 month YIKES) So maybe one month of just injectables and timed BDing for us.. and see how my CM is. If it is not any better the first month on injectables then I will PUSH hubby telling letting him know that my CM is bad and we HAVE to do IUI... and spend $2000 yikes!!! to be honest that is worth it to me... but hubby looks at is as... theres no guaranteee!!! oh man guys can be tough!!!

think if it were me i'd have the injectables and use preseed to help with the CM problem. worth a try, good luck!

Yeah, Ive read lots of stories where women had injectables, trigger shot and times intercourse.
Your lining should definitely improve on the injectibles.

As for CM - definitely use preseed and another thing that helps me a lot is chesty cough syrop. Im not sure what brands you have in the US, but they must have some syrops for chesty cough - not dry cough. The active ingredient you need to look out for is called "guafenesin" or something like that.

Start taking it about 5 days before O - 3 to 4 times a day and it's guaranteed to give you nice stretchy watery CM

ttc1st_at_40~ It amazes me how different things are .. both procedures and costs ... depending on where you live. Out of curiosity~ what doesn't your DH like about the IUI??? I am in Florida and my OB is a fertility specialist who does IUI.. so an IUI with Clomid will only cost us about $250.. you'd be better off getting a plane ticket somewhere and having another doc do it instead of the $2000- that is UNREAL. Maybe you could look around for someone who is just an OB trained to do IUI's and save yourself a lot of money????? We are going to try 3 IUI's with Clomid.. and if that doesn't work I am going to ask for a 4th IUI with injectables.. and if that doesn't work~ then I have to go to a fertility specialist to try IVF. :hugs: Hope it works out for you !!

Hi Girls... thanks for all the responses

So yep, been all over the internet already for the last several months, trying to get rid of the CM prob.... but honestly I just really never notice ANY. Ever... I did bring this up to the FS when he was blaming the issue on the Clomid and he said WELLL maybe you had it but didnt notice, alot of times it can only really be checked by an examination, so until he sees me this next cycle off the Clomid, he wants to blame the CM problem on the Clomid....I dont want to go in this cycle and said SEE I TOLD YOU... but I am afraid that is what is going to happen again.

Maria Yes I have been using robitussin for the past 6 cycles... it is the guaffesin, and perhaps I can up the dosage on what I feed my self. and I can not stomach grapefruit AT ALL!!!

rosie... Yes And I do also use Conceive Plus typically (which is esstentiallY Preseed...just another brand) .. BUT for doing this post colital test at the FS office they want us to have sex with out any lubricant so they can see naturally what I am producing, then go into the office 2-4 hours later to do some diagnostics...that is where they saw me this last cycle with NO CM and all the spermies were dead :( but honestly this cycle I am going to use the Conceive Plus before my post colital this time, as I am NOT wasting another month. The way I look at it is... hey thats what I use every month so why not do the test with what I will be using... and see how the spermies look then right?

holly... hubby does not like the "thought" of IUI thinks if we have a baby it should "happen naturally at home" he also threw out the comment "I dont want to have a test tube baby" yep!!! thats what I am dealing with... he is a fantastic guy, but a bid old fashion... and a die hard Irish Catholic man...I am trying to convince him it is not as invasive as he thinks, but he said "I dont want some Dr having our baby for us" ughhh!! MEN!! But I believe he is now actually "considering" it, where before he was DEAD SET AGAINST IT... so at least we are moving in the right direction.

as for the costs... wow $250 for an IUI cycle!!! that is really cheap. for me...how it works right now is my insurance company pays for any testing or blood work I get for "diagnosising "infertility. But no IUI or IVF is covered. So all testing, ultrasounds and scans and blood work I have gotten so far have been 100% covered. And will be continued to be covered unless I get an IUI. Because as soon as I would move on to an IUI or IVF then that means I am now being "treated" for infertility, no more "diagnosising" and that is when they would stop paying for any of this blood work, ultrasounds etc...And when on a injectable cycle Dr does like 2-3 ultrasounds and blood work almost every other day. So first off the drugs are appx $1000 anyway (still waiting to see if my prescription plan pays for this, still being worked on) and then say I do this injectable cycle without a planned IUI then all this testing is covered at %100 but if it is a planned IUI then I would have to pay out of pocket for all the 2-3 ultrasounds and blood work and IUI together comes out to be $1000... so essentially there is where it comes out to a $2000 cycle. $1000 for meds and $1000 for the IUI with all the necessary testing. And then again once I do do an IUI in one cycle then my insurance co from then on out will not pay for ANY more testing...even if my next cycle is not an IUI.... so sorry for the long explanation kinda hard to put down into words but there ya have it....to me... the $$$ is worth it... but hubby does not see it that way especially when there is not a 100% guarantee that it will give us a baby in the end. But I am trying to tell him it is better odds than 0% if we dont try it... if my CM is really that bad, then his sperm will never make it to where they need to be that where our 0% odds are. :(

I definitely understand your DH not being enthused about- none of us are really- but it is what it is... and IUI isn't artificial... its just putting the sperm where they need to be and the sperm has to get into the egg on it's own- totally natural.

Insurance is so complicated, lol! Mine is the EXACT opposite.. it will only pay for the actual procedures.. no meds and such!! I also have to pay the first $4,000 of ANYTHING out of pocket.. :growlmad: STINKS! Thankfully though~ like I said~ for me, the IUI isn't too expensive. It definitely sounds like they are being very thorough as far as doing ultrasounds and such. Ya know, a point my DH brought up yesterday though was that he really thought a lot of that was all about making money.. I am not having ANY ultrasounds for the IUI.. and just how necessary is it really??? And personally, I think it's silly when an IUI gets canceled because things dont look perfect- you truly NEVER know if it will be successful or not- that is up to mother nature. When I went in yesterday for my IUI- it was actually even cheaper... $70 to wash the sperm, and $80 for the IUI.. and Clomid cost me $10.. and I am basically waiting to see what happens! PRAYING!

I definitely will keep my FX'd that your DH comes around and that you get your BFP!!!

well scatch all that... my grand total for one month on injectables and an IUI will be appx 3K out of pocket... appx $1800 for the drugs, $475 for ultrasounds $300 for blood work, $275 for the IUI and some crazy $250 monthy cycle maintenance fee??

FS told me I have a 1% chance conceiving on my own... my age of 40, and climbing FSH values and my hubbys little less than average SA. so next cycle I will be either super sad and back to au natrual praying for a miracle on my %1 chance or I will be right smack in the middle of fertility treatments and BROKE !!!
